Job Description

At SMS Equipment, our Payroll Coordinator is responsible for all activities as they relate to the Company’s payroll for the Hourly Non-Union Western Region. The incumbent will also assist with labour rates, extend mapping, and reconciliations. The incumbent will respond to payroll and benefit inquiries from management and employees, as well as communicate with HR representatives, benefit carriers, Ultimate Software, and government departments.This position offers a hybrid work environment.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Day-to-day payroll and remain up to date on current procedures and processes. Administer and interpret diverse and complex payroll and benefit regulations. Ability to calculate payroll liabilities, employee federal and provincial income taxes, employment insurance, federal pension plan and workers compensation deductions, and NWT payroll tax.
  • Extract and verify accuracy of the payroll data from the UltiPro time and attendance program as well as the ERP system. Process all applicable garnishments, retirement contributions and records of employment. Ability to process payroll related changes and verify the accuracy of the data from systems. Process and audit the hourly non-union western regional payroll.
  • Communicate with internal employees and departments contracts, maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations. Process all applicable garnishments, retirement contributions and records of employment.
Qualifications:The successful candidate will have Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) certification), as well as a minimum of 3 years’ experience accompanied with a solid working knowledge of payroll and benefits processes, regulations, legislation, and collective agreements. Additional qualifications include:
  • Knowledge of UKG (formerly called Ultimate Software or UltiPro) payroll and benefits system is an asset.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, v-lookups, complex calculations, quick formatting and short cuts).
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with a focus on providing good service to internal and external customers.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to problem solve and find solutions.
