Community:ArviatReference number:09 - 507441Type of employment:IndeterminateType of Employment 2:If there is no successful Nunavut Inuit this position will be offered as a 3 year termUnion Status:ExcludedSalary:$105,342 to $119,511 per annum, 37.5 hour/weekNorthern Allowance:$21,113 per annumSubsidized staff housing availableClosing Date:Friday, September 23, 2022 - 11:59pmThis is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.This employment opportunity is open to all applicants.Reporting to the Director, Curriculum Development, the Team Lead, Iqqaqqaukkaringiq is responsible for overseeing the development, adaptation, review, revision, and replacement of curricula for Iqqaqqaukkaringiq (science, technology, innovation and mathematics and practical arts) for the entire Nunavut K-12 school system. The incumbent, through their activities, ensures that the Department adheres to the requirements outlined in the Education Act, the Inuit Language Protection Act, and other relevant regulations and policies relating to Iqqaqqaukkaringiq curriculum.Some of the responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Determining the cultural foundation for Iqqaqqaukkaringiq curricula in Nunavut and ensuring that Inuit Qaujimatuqang it is the basis for curricula.
  • Working closely with staff in other divisions in piloting, resource development, training, implementation, and support for Iqqaqqaukkaringiq curricula in schools.
  • Researching and reviewing related curricula from other jurisdictions.
  • Working with Elders and community members with specific expertise in these areas; and
  • Assisting other Curriculum Development staff with projects and curriculum initiatives related to these fields of expertise, particularly if there are cross-curricular connections.
The incumbent works collaboratively with Team Leads in other subject areas to facilitate common understanding and agreement of learning outcomes for each grade.The Team Lead, Iqqaqqaukkaringiq assists the Director, Curriculum Development in the review of proposals received by the Department of Education by third parties, as well as with the review of locally developed programs. The incumbent will also prepare or assist with briefing notes, response letters, and other departmental documents, and participates on committees as required.The incumbent has two (2) direct reports, Curriculum Coordinators. Supervisory duties include assigning work, assessing employee performance, and addressing performance issues.The ideal candidate for this position will have a Bachelor of Education degree from a recognized university. In addition, a minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience in Grades K-12 including/in combination with experience with curriculum, course, program, or resource development. The incumbent must be eligible for a Nunavut teacher’s certificate. Assets include: a Master’s Degree in curriculum or a related field; teaching experience in Nunavut or another northern jurisdiction; and experience in project work at the school/regional or territorial/provincial level.The official languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut (Inuinnaqtun), English and French. Fluency in one of the Inuit languages is an asset.
