St Lawrence Youth Association has an immediate need forCasual Residential Youth Justice Workers__**St. Lawrence Youth Association provides individualized restorative programming for youth at risk and aims to reduce youth crime and help build strong communities. The Casual YJW fulfills a vital role within the secure custody/detention facility. Ideal candidates will possess strong counseling and interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusting relationships with adolescents who have unique needs, including mental health, trauma exposure, and behavior difficulties.Candidates must have a positive philosophy, be culturally aware and sensitive, have the ability to implement programming, a team spirit, and be committed to providing superior service to young people in crisis while working with an organization that is dedicated to supporting youth in conflict with the law. Successful applicants will have an understanding of facility safety and security, advanced verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to perform the duties of the Youth Justice Worker in a demanding environment. Bilingualism at an advanced level (English/French) and volunteer experience are assets. If you are bilingual please identify this in your cover letter.A university degree is preferred, and / or a college diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution in Psychology, Criminology, Social Work, Addictions & Mental Health, Community and Justice Services, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience working with high risk youth may be considered. Availability must encompass a full rotational shift schedule (days, nights, weekends, holidays) consisting of both predetermined and immediate call-in shifts. Mandatory requirements for application: · Criminal reference check declared suitable for vulnerable sector employment,· Up to date Immunization status according to national standards, including proof of prior Two-step TB testing. · Current First Aid / CPR-C certificate,· Valid class G driver’s license.· Successful candidates will be required to provide a physician’s note indicating their fitness to work as per the job description within 10 days of hire.Applicants must be available to attend a mandatory training period (anticipated start mid-August, full paid days, exact dates TBA).Wage: $20.94 per hour, plus 10% in lieu of benefits.
