Belle Plaine is located in Saskatchewan, Canada 50 km west of Regina on highway #1.ResponsibilitiesThe Operations Manager is accountable to the Plant Manager for all activities required for the safe and efficient operations of all production Units.

  • Provide leadership of the Environmental, Health, and Safety program to ensure compliance
  • Manage and establish policies, standards and procedures to meet regulatory requirements, personal and process safety, staff training and competency
  • Monitor and analyze plant performance to achieve operating rate and on-stream factor. Identify performance gaps, plant problems and define areas for improvement. Revise parameters and procedures as required to maintain maximum capacity and efficiency
  • Provide supervision, direction, support and coaching to direct reports and other operations personnel
  • Prepare operational budget, control costs to achieve budget and identify and recommend deviations from the budget to the Plant Manager
  • Identify required maintenance activities and approve all plant alterations. Control costs to help achieve the maintenance budget
  • Project involvement including HazOp review, Management of Change. Plant Improvements for waste reduction and product line development and expansion
Education, Experience & Skill
  • Engineering/Technical Degree or equivalent education
  • Professional Engineer designation is an asset. The ability to register with APEGS is an asset
  • Knowledge of budgeting and accounting and the use of these tools in the cost control program
  • Technical background or extensive operating experience required (minimum of 5 years).
  • Complete knowledge of Ammonia and urea production is required.
  • Knowledge of ammonia and urea storage, loading and shipping, equipment, and procedures
  • Experience in supervision of engineering and operating personnel is required.
  • Knowledge of government regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team and create an atmosphere of trust to achieve alignment.
  • Ability to systematically analyze complex matters and drive progress/improvements.
  • Technical knowledge in fluid dynamics, heat exchange, chemistry and thermodynamics. Additional experience in process plant operation is an asset.
  • Strong communication skills are required.
