Job Description

The Operations Supervisors are responsible for Candos day to day and shift by shift operations while ensuring customer commitments are met safely and on time.Roles and ResponsibilitiesSafety

  • Actively participates in the execution of Candos Safety Management Plan and Initiatives including audits and reports; observes, documents, and evaluates safe work practices as per rules and regulations
  • Facilitates employee meetings to emphasize safety and discuss safety risks; participates on customer safety and quality teams as required
  • Investigates accidents and incidents, determines root cause
Service Delivery
  • Ensures employees are providing superior service in keeping with Candos Vision, Mission and Values
  • Supports daily and weekly operating plans and customer interaction for the team ensuring customer needs are being met
  • Performs regular audits and confirms that all preventative and scheduled maintenance and inspections are completed as required to ensure the facility and equipment remains in prime operating conditions at all times
Management and Administration
  • Assists in managing monthly budgets, service plans, personnel development plans, timekeeping and resource requirements
  • Manages the customer and contract owner business relationship
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining the operating team including participation in hiring, coaching, leading activities, monitoring payroll and WCB functions
  • Maintains standard operating procedures, operating the site safely and meeting all regulatory requirements

  • Influences and inspires others to achieve company objectives
  • Builds and maintains positive relationships with peers, customers and other third parties
  • Leads others in adapting to innovative work environments and ensures company initiatives, decisions, and policies are communicated
  • Provides for the delivery of training and developmental requirements related to the department through employee coaching and mentoring
  • Provides direct supervision, conducts proactive proficiency observations, and daily records of operations
  • Trains team members and provides operational assistance and expertise when required
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
  • Communicates effectively both orally and in writing with people of all backgrounds and levels of comprehension including managers, employees, customers, and the public
  • Demonstrates initiative to work with others to foster a respectful workplace; creates a work environment that is open to maintaining positive relationships; empowers individuals and teams to set and accomplish goals
  • Understands effective cost monitoring, control, reporting, and bottom-line profitability and accountability
  • Ability to exercise discretion and good judgement in providing information to internal or external customers in a courteous and tactful manner with regard to sensitive or confidential issues
  • Ability to handle a diverse range of responsibilities in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Proficient in the use of computer equipment, operating systems, word processing, spreadsheets and database software
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all necessary certification and meet all safety and customer requirements including clear drug and alcohol testing; hold and maintain a valid provincial drivers license
Education and Experience
  • Minimum five (5) years working in heavy industrial environment; rail experience is an asset including current or past operating rules qualifications
  • Minimum two (2) years in a leadership or supervisory position. Rail Supervision experience is an asset
  • Experience working with Safety Management Systems
