Job Description

Railcar Repair Mechanics are responsible for ensuring the railcars used by the customer at the site meet the standards for loading product and transportation on the rail network. Working in a fast-paced, customer oriented environment, Railcar Repair Mechanics must work well in teams to maximize efficiency and safety, while demonstrating a strong initiative and organizational skills.Roles and ResponsibilitiesThe incumbents work in a team environments to provide safe and effective railcar inspection, repair, and cleaning according to instructions and requirements while working within company operating rules and safety procedures. Responsibilities include:

  • Perform daily inspections on customer railcars
  • Clean out designated railcars and removing the excess product off the rail line
  • Repair minor railcar defects including welding gates, hatch replacements, brake shoe changes, and other minor repairs
  • Promptly report all safety, equipment, and problems to the site designate
  • Complete daily reports, daily logs, and other reports deemed necessary
  • Exert best effort to protect human life, human safety and company property
  • Actively participate with the team and provide excellent customer service while promoting a superior company image
  • Participate in training or company initiatives as required
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Good mechanical aptitude and knowledge of rail car components
  • Be willing and able to learn and perform as part of the switching crews performing the railcar movements on site
  • Ability to read and write general documentation; communicate effectively with all team members
  • Physically fit including the ability to pull self-up and down from a railcar on a continuous basis, able to lift and twist to repair equipment; ability to work at heights with appropriate restraints
  • Meet all customer site requirements including clear drug and alcohol testing and Criminal Record clearance
  • Be able and willing to work in all weather conditions during day and night shifts, at a site that is operational seven (7) days per week, 365 days per year.
Education & Experience
  • 1 – 3 years mechanical experience; experience working with railcars or in an industrial setting preferred
  • Welding experience is an asset
