Job Description

Plant Operator - (2211640)The Opportunity:As a Second or Third Class Power Engineer, you will interact and coordinate with a team of operators to ensure that production targets are met for our thermal operations. The key functions of a Plant Operator are to contribute to the reliability and safe operations of our facility, and to work with many internal and external groups such as vendors, Calgary staff and the field engineering team.Key Accountabilities:

  • Utilize your operations expertise in a dynamic production environment
  • Maintain and optimize equipment and processes
  • Adhere to and engage in safety protocols
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and perform minor repairs and servicing
  • Collaborate with plant operators to oversee the day-to-day plant activities
  • Utilize the DCS control system to monitor and control plant conditions
  • Identify and scope out opportunities to maximize production, minimize operating costs and eliminate downtime
  • Maintain proper documentation, including operating logs, maintenance records and safety & environmental reports
  • Provide training on operating policies and procedures
Other Details:
  • Job location: Bonnyville, Alberta
  • Shift schedule: 12-hour day/night rotation
  • This is not a camp position, relocation to the local area is required
  • Eligible for relocation pursuant to Canadian Natural’s Relocation Regular Policy
  • This is a hands-on role. Physical requirements may include climbing stairs and ladders, entering vessels and equipment for inspections, turning valves, dragging hoses, long hours on your feet etc.

Skills & Qualifications:
  • Second Class Power Engineering Certificate is preferred; Third Class Power Engineers may be considered with significant and recent progress towards Second Class
  • Typically, 10+ years of related industry experience
  • Knowledge of:
    • Once Through Steam Generators, Gas Turbines, Heat Recovery Steam Generators and utilities including Power Distribution Systems
    • Water Treatment Equipment
    • Oil Process and Treating Equipment
    • Auxiliary Boilers
    • SAGD and CSS wells
