Job Description

The ProgramWe work to improve the lives of persons with developmental disabilities, mental health concerns and/or acquired brain injuries, by encouraging independent living and active participation in their community. Behaviour and health-related support is tailored to their individual needs.The PositionSchedule: 7pm to 9am (sleep 11pm - 7am)Week one: Sunday, ThursdayWeek two: Tuesday, Friday, Saturday***This 14-hour shift position is 6-awake hours (regular rate $18.70- $21.63/hr). Sleep rate of $15/hr applies during hours between 11pm and 7am***This front-line role sleeps at the clients residence and is available, if needed, to assist the client during overnight hours.Typical overnight shift may include:

  • 7pm (4 awake hrs) - assist/model nightly bed-time routine (personal hygiene, brushing teeth, etc.) ensuring a consistent, healthy and safe environment for persons in care.
  • 11pm-7am (8 sleep hrs)- You will be provided your own private bedroom, within the residence and sleep hours are paid at minimum wage $15/hr. In the event of an emergent situation, sleep staff will be responsible for awake responsibilities to provide immediate support in crisis situations.
  • 7am-9am (2 awake hrs)- assist/model a regular morning routine with the person-served, including normal hygiene, household tasks (including food prep, daily chores, etc.)
In Your Role You Will
  • Encourage individuals to participate in a meaningful way in their personal life planning and definition of personal goals.
  • Assist individuals to develop independent living skills and/or assist with direct care, as required.
  • Provide instruction, guidance and support in a helpful and supportive manner.
  • Implement person-centered plans designed to support and assist persons in a residential group or private home setting
  • Model socially appropriate behaviours (for the individual and the community).
  • Minimize risks and maximize participation/inclusion.
  • Administer medical administration or first aid, according to prescribed procedures.
  • Participates in shift exchanges, staff communication and communication of issues or concerns.
  • Maintain required documentation.

  • Minimum Grade 12 High School Diploma
  • MANDATORY - One (1) year experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, mental health concerns, Autism, FASD, acquired brain injuries, etc.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver License with clear driving abstract and reliable transportation
  • Clear criminal record check and social services involvement check
  • A positive attitude and belief that persons with disabilities have the right/responsibility to define and pursue their life choices, and pursue active participation and involvement in the community.
  • Skills in assisting individuals in anger management, daily living, self help, etc.
  • First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention, Medication Administration, Abuse Protocol, Proactive Procedures and Behavioural Strategies, Foundations and Disabilities Training
  • Knowledge of basic health and safety rules and guidelines for personal health and safety, as appropriate.
