Submit proof of COVID-19 immunization with your application.Reporting to the Nurse Manager Outpatient Services, the Community Health Representative position is to positively impact the health of Nunavummiut and reduce the need for acute health care through the health promotion and illness prevention initiatives. With the support of the Supervisor Community Public Health Nurse (SCPHN) or the Manager of Public Health in Iqaluit, regional and territorial leadership, the CHR provides accurate and up-to-date health promotion information to enhance the health and wellbeing of Nunavummiut. The CHR works to build local capacity by integrating health promotion initiatives in the community and partnering with the Community Health and Wellness Committees (CHWC), as well as other groups and organizations. The CHR optimizes the effectiveness of health promotion information through collaborating in the development and implementation of resources.The Community Health Representative will promote health and wellbeing in the community by responding to community public health needs, and supporting regional and territorial public health priorities; liaison between the Department of Health, community and other departments and organizations; advocate in health and Inuit culture; build capacity using community development principles; and other duties include but are not limited to, participate in on-going professional development, develop work plans, submit reports to Manager or Supervisor, mentor students and colleagues (CHRs and nursing students), and assist with cultural and public health related research.The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a High School Diploma or equivalent and experience working in a northern community.This is a Position of Trust and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.A valid driver’s license, First Aid/BCLS and CHR training are assets.Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position.
