Community:Cambridge BayReference number:14-507523Type of employment:IndeterminateUnion Status:This position is included in the Nunavut Employees UnionSalary:$97,372Northern Allowance:$20,891Subsidized staff housing availableClosing Date:Friday, November 18, 2022 - 11:59pmThis is a Position of Trust and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.This employment opportunity is open to all applicants.Reporting to the Chief Electrical Inspector, the Regional Electrical Inspector is responsible for ensuring that the electrical systems in Nunavut operate in a safe and efficient manner. The Inspector shall advise contractors, the general public and government official on the proper installation of equipment and systems based on the codes in effect and acceptable trade practices. Failure to perform these duties could result in a hazardous situation that would reflect poorly on the Government of Nunavut (GN). Improper code interpretations, enforcements and errors in judgement could result in a serious life and/or property loss. This could result in the GN being held liable for injuries, property damage or financial loss.The Regional Electrical Inspector performs physical inspections on all types of electrical installations to insure conformity to the minimal acceptable safety standards of the Act and Regulations. The Inspector issues permits and monitors and ensures all electrical installations are done by qualified electrical workers and that the electrical permit has been obtained for the installation. This position reviews, analyses and approves electrical engineering designs for various types of electrical installations in Nunavut by evaluating them in conjunction with the codes and standards. The Inspector investigates electrical accidents, fires and violations of the Act in Nunavut and reports findings to the Chief Electrical Inspector.The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained by satisfying the qualification requirements:Possess a certificate of qualification issued by a Canadian province or territory at the journeyperson level along with an Interprovincial “Red Seal” endorsement. A minimum if five (5) years’ of construction experience in the electrical trade after certification and one (1) year experience supervising electrical installations.Posses an Electrical Engineering degree granted by a recognized, accredited university with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in power and distribution systems design and construction, two (2) of which are as a project manager.OR…..Posses a diploma from an accredited Canadian college as an Electrical Engineering Technologist with a minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in power and distribution systems design and construction, two (2) of which are as a project manager.Must be eligible for certification as a Certified Electrical Inspector by the International Association of Electrical Inspectors (IAEI)Possess or be eligible for a valid Nunavut Class 5 drivers license.The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktitut, Inuinnaqtun, English and French. The ability to communicate in more than one of the official languages of Nunavut is an asset.
