This guidance and support may take the form of the provision of templates to aid in the development of key deliverables, such as the emergency to stakeholders.Delivering emergency programs is a large part of the Nunavut Emergency Management (NEM) mandate and is a component of this position’s duties. The delivery of public education and awareness programs is critical to preparedness. These programs must be promoted in a culturally relevant sensitive manner. This position will allow NEM to provide culturally relevant preparedness education, based on accepted best practice, as opposed to conventional messaging streaming from the predominantly national programs. The incumbent shall also work GN stakeholders to enhance their ability to respond to emergencies.The REMO will work directly with the GN and municipalities to train, develop, review and test their emergency programs. The REMO will assist in reviewing and developing various training courses for the emergency measures program, and organizing and participating in school presentations, tradeshows, career fairs and other public functions.The Regional Emergency Measures Officer will facilitate the Emergency Management Plans/Programs (EMPs); facilitate the delivery and administration of public education and awareness programs; promote programs such as the national emergency preparedness week and other initiatives; and act as NEM Emergency Operations Duty Officer and carryout other duties as directed by manager as needed.The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a successful completion of ICS I-100, Introduction to the Incident Command System; basic emergency management training; two (2) years’ related experience.This is a Highly Sensitive Position and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check, along with a clear Vulnerable Sector Check is required.The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position.
