Successful applicants will enjoy a competitive salary, medical and dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan, relocation privileges and opportunities for training and career advancement.Reporting to the Manager Transportation Programs, the Transportation Programs Officer provides functional direction to ensure safe, effective and efficient management and operation of airport facilities and services and oversees wharf and harbour maintenance for assigned communities in the region.The Transportation Programs Officer is responsible for range of air, marine and surface transportation facilities and services; represent the Department of Economic Development & Transportation in the management of related facility and infrastructure, multi-year operation contracts and intergovernmental agreements; provide technical and functional support or guidance to Hamlet Councils and GN airport staff to ensure the Nunavut Airports in the Region are operated in accordance with approved standards and agreements; encourage maximum municipal participation and competence in the management and operations of Community Airports, Marine Facilities and roads; collect information required for the transportation planning process occurring in the Region, and assist in project implementation; provide contract management, financial administration and personnel support for Aviation related operations; provide assistance in meeting various operational needs such as surface maintenance, airfield markers, repairs and administrative matters; participate in safety and other related committee forums; maintain a continuing program of study in airport management and operations procedures, standards and industry practices; participate in the selection and upkeep of Community Docks and Harbours; and act as Manager Transportation Programs in his/her absence.The knowledge, skills, and abilities normally acquired through a diploma from a community college in Airport Management, Transportation Planning, Transportation Engineering or Transportation Systems Management or a related field and a minimum of two (2) years’ Airport operation experience.This is a Position of Trust and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.Acceptable combinations of education and experience may be considered for this position.
