Job Description

INTROThe Operations Support section supports the operations activities of the Licensed Nuclear Facilities which includes Universal Cells (UC), Building 234, Fuels and Materials Cells (FMC), Building 375, Tritium Facility (TF) Building 215, Recycled Fuel Fabrication Facility (RFFL) Building 375, B405, ZED-2 Operations Facility, Building 145 and Mo-99 Production Facility, Building 225. The Operations Specialist will support in the areas of technical support, Facility improvements, commercialamp; internal projects support, system health monitoring, aging management, obsolescence management, maintenance and process systems support. The candidate will also assist in the general operations of the Facility as required to maintain the Facility Authorization.This position is an entry level position that supports the operation of these licensed Facilities by improving work control authorization using the Integrated Work Control process. Accurate and effective procedures are required for all aspects of the operation. The successful candidate will begin with a focus on updating procedures and implementing changes in the Facilities thus acquiring technical expertise in the design and operation of Facility systems.This position offers an excellent opportunity for career development while working on a variety of systems, small and large projects and a number of new programs and initiatives. The position offers unique challenges, exposure to commissioning activities, operating systems problem solving and design interface activities.DUTIES

  • Provide technical oversight and act on behalf of the Facility as operations representative.
  • Learn to be job leader, providing guidance and direction to maintenance staff.
  • Provide operational direction to direct operating staff.
  • Assist in providing technical support for maintenance of all systems.
  • To be responsible for the safe, proper and efficient operation of all Facility equipment.
  • To be familiar with the appropriate methods and precautions required for the handling of radioactive materials.
  • To be cross-trained in operating multiple facilities efficiently, safely and competently.
  • To perform other related duties appropriate to the assigned level.
  • Carrying out other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Honours Bachelor in Engineering or Science from a university of recognized standing, or membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member and to respond to challenging schedule demands.
  • Experience in nuclear operations is an asset
  • General knowledge of nuclear, mechanical, chemistry, and electrical.
  • Must have demonstrated excellent written and oral abilities.
  • Must be self-motivated and driven. Must be comfortable in performing work with short timelines and high pressure.
  • Must have broad training or educational qualifications specific to the job duties; be willing to obtain or attend further job related training and accreditation.
  • Ability to perform under stress when confronted with emergency, unusual or hazardous conditions.
  • Must possess good judgment and communication skills [oral and written].
  • Demonstrate ability to work as an effective team member, and to respond to challenging schedule demands.
  • Must possess a high sense of individual responsibility.
  • Direct experience in an operations environment would be an asset.
  • Reliability and attendance records of applicants will be scrutinized and considered in this competition.
  • Knowledge of process, mechanical and electrical systems operations and maintenance practices.
  • Basic knowledge of business and management principles involved in project planning, budgeting and resource allocation and coordination of resources.
  • Basic knowledge of procurement and financial processes.
  • Hoisting and rigging, flask transfers, transport of dangerous goods and Class 1 Nuclear Facility operations.
