Job Description

The John Howard Society of Thunder Bay & District is seeking a Program Lead/Support Worker to oversee the Indigenous Student Support Program at Geraldton Composite High School(GCHS).The Indigenous Student Support Program is designed to assist Indigenous students who are experiencing social and/or behavioural challenges by delivering culturally appropriate services and programming to support their educational needs.This initiative was developed by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS), working in partnership with the Superior-Greenstone District School Board.Operating within Geraldton Composite High School, support services and programming are provided/coordinated by the Program Lead, utilizing collaborations and partnerships between school and community organizations/services/resources.Qualifications, Experience, Education Requirements:

  • Post secondary education in humanities and/or social services
  • Experience in program implementation, First Nations culture and programming and restorative justice practices
  • Experience providing case management and/or direct services to youth 12-17 years of age
  • Experience facilitating programming to youth
  • Motivational interviewing skills and competency using risk/needs assessment tools
  • Strong organizational and time management skills are vital
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and non-verbal)
  • Current/Valid Police Record Check that includes Vulnerable Sector Screening
