Job SummaryReporting to the Team Supervisor, the Instrumentation Technician will perform maintenance activities such as calibrations, repairs, troubleshooting process control on a variety of plant process instrumentation and related control systems.Duties & Responsibilities
  • Complete root cause analysis utilizing software and technology to diagnose field devices. Following on with recommendations for repair, replacement & improvements of these device.
  • Ensure all work complies with quality management system, health & safety standards and all applicable codes.
  • Interpret Operating & Maintenance (O&M) manuals, diagrams, schematics, prints and recommend revisions.
  • Organize, coordinate and work with external contractors and equipment suppliers while performing calibrations or repairs to process equipment, including the inspection of completed work to ensure it conforms to Regional standards and industry best practices.
  • Respond to emergency equipment failures, troubleshoot equipment and diagnose problems, identify needed resources and make repairs or work with contractors to complete work.
  • Provide support services to the Region’s Engineering group to assist with project implementation and the start-up and commissioning of equipment.
  • Maintain good working relationships with all colleagues, customers and contractors through collaboration, communication and application of conflict resolution skills.
  • Utilize CMMS to record all work performed, source equipment parts, equipment history, and modify and update work status as required.
  • Utilize inventory management system.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.
Skills & QualificationsEssential:
  • Secondary-School diploma with a valid Certificate of Apprenticeship along with a valid Certificate of Qualification as an Instrumentation Technician in good standing with the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities.
  • Three to five (3-5) years of practical experience is also required, preferably in water/wastewater.
  • Strong working knowledge of Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Systems (SCADA), process instrumentation and the ability to analyze and troubleshoot problems in a process environment.
  • Experience completing Preventive and Predictive maintenance activities and optimizing maintenance plans.
  • Interpret equipment manufacturer’s schematic drawings and operating and maintenance (O&M) manuals to effectively check equipment installation and repairs and interpret design drawings to validate and provide comments on proposed work.
  • Effective communication skills are required to work with both suppliers, manufacturers and technical support teams for equipment diagnosis and troubleshooting.
  • Strong working knowledge of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are required along with problem solving, priority setting, and customer service skills to work effectively in an empowered team environment.
  • Must possess a good understanding of safety practices as mandated under the Occupational Health & Safety Act, as well as knowledge of Ministry of Environment and Climate Change regulations.
Preferred:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required as well as working knowledge of SAP PM.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics and electrical systems.
  • Experience with inventory management systems to maintain quality of data.
Working/ Employment ConditionsWorking Conditions
  • The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, by the first day of employment.
  • The incumbent will be required to drive a Regional vehicle and will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s license and a driver’s abstract, by their first day of employment.
  • Flexibility in working hours will be required.
  • The incumbent must be prepared to work outside of normal working hours and in adverse conditions.
  • Participation in paid standby is also required.
  • The incumbent must be able to perform all the necessary physical tasks associated with the position including lifting, bending, kneeling, crawling, climbing ladders, working from scaffolding and heights.
