This position conducts survey measurements, calculations, data compilation and establishes field reference points to assist Project Managers, consultants and contractors in the design and construction of Regional infrastructure projects.Duties & Responsibilities

  • Proficiency in the operation and adjustment of highly specialized survey equipment including total station, digital level, conventional levels and GPS equipment.
  • Knowledge of new emerging survey hardware, technologies, methods and software applications.
  • Determining methods and procedures for establishing or reestablishing survey control.
  • Calculating heights, depths, relative positions and other characteristics of terrain and built features.
  • Computing geodetic measurements and interpreting survey data in order to determine positions, shapes and elevations of geomorphic and topographic features.
  • Assessing and developing criteria for survey methods and procedures as well as for the use and application of survey instruments.
  • Skill in mathematics to identify and solve problems with knowledge of arithmetic, trigonometry, geometry, calculus, statistics and their applications.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of construction drawings and technical specifications.
  • Awareness of Health and Safety and OTM Book 7 policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Ensuring that the public and all those impacted by survey activity are dealt with in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Maintains survey vehicle, reporting any deficiencies and ensuring that fleet vehicles are properly equipped, organized and fueled.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
Skills & QualificationsEssential
  • Diploma in Civil Engineering, Survey or Construction Technology.
  • Exceptional customer service, interpersonal skills, attention to detail and the ability to work in a team.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health & Safety Act and OTM Book 7.
Preferred
  • Working knowledge of Carlson 2022.
Working/ Employment ConditionsWorking Conditions
  • The incumbent will be required to safely work in live traffic, on active construction sites, at rail crossings and at Regional plants. Additional hazards may include working in various environmental conditions such as sun, heat, cold and noise.
  • Must be able to perform all the necessary physical tasks associated with the position including walking long distances, carrying equipment, moving maintenance manhole covers up to 100lbs, pounding stakes and navigating varying terrain.
  • Flexibility in working hours may be required. Occasional overtime may be required in evenings or on weekends.
Employment Conditions
  • The incumbent will be required to drive a Regional vehicle. A copy of their driver’s license and a driver’s abstract will be required no later than their first day of employment. Additionally, the incumbent may be required to use their own transportation.
  • The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, by the first day of employment.
  • In support of the Region’s commitment to a healthy and safe workplace and community, the Region has a vaccination requirement for all employees. The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on the condition of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and able to provide proof of vaccination. The candidate will be asked to provide the Region with proof of full vaccination, prior to their employment start date.
