Hope Bay is located in the Arctic Circle approximately 685km northeast of Yellow Knife and 125km south-west of Cambridge Bay, a hamlet located on Victoria Island in the Kitikmeot Region of Nunavut, Canada. Hope Bay is a project acquired by Agnico Eagle in 2021 which is currently in an exploration phase in order to further define the current ore bodies. Commercial production is scheduled to resume after the exploration phase is completed. The site features a power plant and processing facilities, remote exploration camps, an air strip as well as a complete camp complex.YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE:Reporting to the Health & Safety Superintendent, the Health & Safety Trainer collaborates with all departments of the mine. The incumbent will coordinate and facilitate health & safety training site wide, provide orientations, workplace safety training, verify the safety and competency of equipment operators as well as develop training material such as sign off packages and related documentation. The Trainer will also provide support with general H&S department administration, participate in incident investigations and act as an advisor to employees on Health & Safety matters. They will ensure goals and objectives are achieved while promoting Agnico Eagle’s culture and Health & Safety Code of Conduct.

  • Develop and update current health & safety training material;
  • Facilitate inductions, new employee orientations and various health & safety training;
  • Conduct scheduled workplace safety inspections and audits;
  • Coordinate and facilitate site equipment operator training;
  • Maintain employee records and ensure training matrixes are up to date;
  • Respond to various incidents and emergencies and participate in incident investigations ;
  • Provide operational support to other departments as required;
  • Assist with site security operations and health & safety functions;
  • Other such duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED
  • Ability to build effective working relationships;
  • Experience facilitating safety training such as fall protection and confined space;
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint;
  • Proven experience and competency operating all site heavy and light equipment including but not limited to Dozers, Graders, Excavators, Water trucks, Semi-truck with airbrake systems, Skid steers, Loaders, Telehandlers;
  • Valid driver’s license;
  • Train-the -Trainer certification;
  • Mine Rescue experience is considered and asset;
  • Sound judgment with effective decision-making skills;
  • Must demonstrate responsibility, dependability, honesty, confidentiality, and integrity;
  • Strong ability to effectively communicate in English (Oral and written). Selected candidates must attain a passing mark on the SPEEXX English language assessment.
Your Work Schedule
  • Schedule: 21 days of work, followed by 21 days for transportation and rest; flights departing from Edmonton and Yellowknife.
