  • High School Graduate or equivalent;
  • Minimum of two years related experience in a camp or childcare environment;

  • Ability to take direction well and work co-operatively with all levels of staff;
  • Ability to perform duties with minimal supervision;
  • Must possess a current Standard First Aid and C.P.R. Certificate prior to commencement of camp;
  • Must be able to provide own transportation to and from camp location
  • Must provide a York Regional Police Vulnerable Sector Screening Request to verify suitability for employment;
  • High Five PHCD, training or equivalent.

  • Plans and facilitates a staff training session for all camp staff in co-operation with other Supervisors and the Camp Coordinator;
  • Creates daily operating schedules for the camp;
  • Creates weekly newsletters for their camp;
  • Directs the day-to-day “on site” operation of the camp, ensuring the safety of all staff and campers in a positive and enjoyable environment, adhering to the Camp’s Code of Conduct;
  • Deliver enjoyable, structured and well-planned camp programs and activities;
  • Ability to plan the course content and arrangement of instruction for various levels of skill;
  • Ability to teach in a camp/group setting;
  • Meet the needs of each participant and ensure adequate safety while facilitating the camp.
  • Responsible for the effective utilization and operation of all equipment and supplies to maintain a safe working environment, including clean-up and equipment maintenance;
  • Take attendance (including administering sign and out procedures), handle inquiries, manages participants, and ensure policies and procedures are enforced when/where necessary.
  • Responsible for the integration of Assistant Counsellors (volunteers) in order to enhance the day to day functions of the camp;
  • Responsible for following all transportation procedures with emphasis on maintaining control and camper safety at all times;
  • Responsible for the motivation and behavior management of all campers;
  • Responsible for the integration and instruction of campers with exceptionalities, special needs and/or physical or cognitive limitations.
  • Responsible for the supervision, direction and evaluation of volunteers/leaders in training/counsellors in training.
  • Responsible for the supervision, direction and evaluation of camp counselors and inclusion camp counsellors to ensure all staff abide by camp and departmental policies and procedures and other applicable legislation;
  • Responsible for completing required evaluation reports of camp operations camp staff and volunteers under their direction;
  • Ensures that Accident/Incident procedures are strictly adhered to at all times;
  • Answers all in person and telephone inquiries and responds to voicemails in a timely manner;
  • Maintain ongoing communication with parents, guardians and responds to inquiries from community members;
  • Demonstrates a high level of customer service and provides this service on the front-line of operation and does so in an efficient, courteous and respectful manner;
  • Participate in the Town’s Health and Safety Program and follow safety practices in work methods and procedures; observes and complies with all relevant Health & Safety regulations.
  • Immediately report all concerns (including product), suspicious occurrences and hazardous conditions to the Recreation Services Supervisor or designate.
