At Rio Tinto, it begins with you.We are looking for a Communities & Communications Advisor with excellent interpersonal and proven strategic skills to contribute to our Aluminium division’s Communities team in British Columbia. With a global reach, the opportunities to develop and grow your career are broad and exciting.Reporting to the Manager, Communities & Communications, and working in an interesting and stimulating environment within the Health, Safety, Environment and Communities function, you will be:

• Acting as a key representative of Rio Tinto in developing and enhancing its relationships with communities, including our Indigenous partners within the Watershed Region
• Developing and implementing strategic community engagement plans to support business objectives and create long lasting partnerships in the Watershed Region
• Supporting Rio Tinto’s team at the Water Engagement Initiative table
• Strengthening partnerships with community leaders and key stakeholders
• Supporting communication efforts with video, written communication and social media to share information on BC Works’ Watershed operations and activities
• Working in person from both the Vanderhoof or Burns Lake offices alternatively, as well as travelling for key engagements within the Watershed Region, and in some cases to Kitimat. Travel may be outside of regular working hours or days.
• Performing your work duties safely and in accordance with Rio Tinto Health & Safety protocols

• A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
• Post-secondary education or equivalent and applicable experience
• Highly motivated and strong people engagement skills – empathetic and excellent listening skills
• Experience working independently as well as part of a team, exercising sound judgment, and managing multiple on-going projects while meeting critical deadlines is essential
• Demonstrated experience working with stakeholders and involved in community engagement programs
• Demonstrated competencies in problem solving of complex matters, from identification of objectives to determining the process to achieve desirable outcomes
• Experience working with a broad range of audiences – including First Nations, local government, local businesses, and the public – to achieve successful, mutually desired outcomes
• Capacity to navigate changing environments
• A minimum of a valid Class 7 (N) Drivers License
