Job Description

The CompanyBridgemans Marine Transport (BMT) is a fully integrated marine service provider, equipped with marine certified crew and a fleet of unique assets servicing industrial projects around the world.BMT is a division of Bridgemans Services Group (BSG), a global provider of workforce floatels and marine services. BSG customizes services to the exact needs and locations of clients, ensuring solutions meet precise specifications, including logistics, crew transfers, housekeeping, catering, and the fulfillment of all HSE requirements.The OpportunityCaptain of 45 passengers transfer vessel as part of a marine construction scope on the LNGC project.Main duties related to safe transfer of personnel to/from the barges and emergency response as required. You must ensure the safety of life, the vessel, and the prevention of marine pollution while working within the established health and safety guidelines, and policies and procedures of the Company.

Key ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Ensure vessel is operated in a safe manner in accordance with all Transport Canada and CSA regulations and requirements.
  • Ensure the vessel is operated with a focus on efficiency, minimizing fuel and supplies waste during operations.
  • Ensure compliance with local project rules as issued by the client; Operate the vessel in full compliance of regulatory, seafaring and BMT standard operating procedures and policies;
  • Ensure that vessel have required inventory of fuel and ship spares;
  • Complete pre-departure checks and inspections at regular intervals;
  • Provide daily reports for each vessel on fuel, labour, and other requirements as per policy and client billing, including damage and incident reporting;
  • Complete all handover logs, documents, reports, and action requests and ensure vessel handover is completed with incoming captain and crew at end of shift
  • At the direction of the Operations Manager, oversee and assist with day-to-day general maintenance;
  • Ensure safety, health and welfare of all crew and passengers on board.
  • Ensure crew levels are sufficient for successful operations pursuant to Safe Manning for the vessel, coordinate with Operations Manager
  • Provide verbal and written performance reviews of all crew to the Operations Manager in support of the performance management of crew
  • Support the skills development of crew, ensuring adequate support, training and development of additional competencies by acting as a mentor for crew and providing training at the direction of the Operations Manager
  • Maintain a positive tone within the team and work cooperatively through personal behaviour, work contribution and the sharing of expertise and knowledge;
  • Act as an ambassador for Bridgeman Marine Transport in all dealings with the public, management and team members.
  • Ensure all vessel operations and activities are completed within the “ordinary practice of seaman”.
Other required duties may be assigned that fall within the parameters of the primary responsibility of the position.Qualifications
  • Three (3) years relevant experience preferred.
  • Valid Transport Canada <60T Certificate of Competency (Kitimat must be listed on the certificate. If not must be willing and able to obtain.)
  • Valid Seafarers Medical certificate
  • MED A2 / MED A3 and ROC-MC
  • Advanced First Aid an asset
  • Ability to clear a drug and alcohol test prior to hiring and potential random tests throughout employment with prior notice.
  • Excellent comprehension and command of the English language; (written & verbal).
  • Reliable mode of transportation & valid class 5 driver’s license.
  • Local to the Kitimat area with ability to attend shifts with limited notice.
  • Bridge watch rating, SVMO, and Simulated electronic navigation Limited all considered an asset.
Working Conditions
  • Repetitive, physical activity involved (Walking, kneeling, reaching, lifting) on floating pontoons and on a vessel in a seaway.
  • Lifting light to medium level weights (up to 20lbs. frequently, 50 lbs. occasionally)
  • Exposure to environmental elements including extreme weather conditions
