Job Description

Location: Northwest BCTerm of Appt: Mon - Fri @ 35 hrs/wk (Ending Jan 2024)Start date: ImmediatelyReporting to: Director of Student ServicesSalary:Classification 12, $25.54 - $26.33/hr, as per the BCGEU Support Collective Agreement. Temporary employees also receive an additional $0.50/hr. in lieu of benefits, as well as having 6% vacation pay paid out with each pay. There is scheduled time off between Christmas and New Years Day that is unpaid time.Description:Northern Lights College (NLC) is seeking to assemble an energetic team to provide the information and guidance to families in Northern communities regarding the student financial assistance funds that have been made available by the federal government through the Canada Learning Bond (CLB) program. This is a collaborative project between NLC, Coast Mountain College, CNC, UNBC and BCs Northern Credit Unions with a focus on building human capacity in Northern BC and increasing the probability of Northern youth pursuing a post-secondary education. NLC will be the lead for the project, which is funded by Employment and Social Development Canada through Phase II of the Canada Learning Bond Grants and Contributions Pilot Project. There will be three full-time positions and one half-time position hired to create this team, with locations in the following regions: Northwest - Terrace, Smithers, etc. (1.0 FTE) and the Northern Interior - Prince George, Vanderhoof, Mackenzie, etc. (1.0 FTE).As a key member of the project team the CLB Promoter will use independent initiative, judgement and discretion while creating new and innovative activities and events with project partners to increase utilization of the CLB and improve enrollment in post-secondary institutions throughout Northern BC. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining a thorough knowledge of Registered Education Savings Plans (RESPs), CLB, matching fund programs and other government post-secondary savings programs in order to inform and advise youth on eligibility. The Promoter will coordinate, attend, and lead all CLB enrolment activities.The CLB Promoter will also be responsible for providing the administrative support to the program, which may include maintaining filing systems, data collection and storage, and working with internal partners to prepare all project documents such as proposals, presentations, and handouts. Responsibilities include tracking and monitoring project activities, deliverables, schedules and budgets. Travel within the northern region will be required, and will increase over the term of the project.Qualifications:REQUIRED:

  • Successful completion of a one-year certificate (minimum 30 credits) in Business Management, Applied Business Technology (or equivalent) or Social Services Worker program. Preference given to those that hold a Bachelors in a relevant field.
  • One - two years related experience in lending or banking would be an asset, or in supporting low-income families (a combination of education and related experience may be considered).
  • The ability to organize, present and manage in-person and virtual workshops.
  • Experience and proficiency with a current version of MS Office Suite (excel, word, outlook, etc.)
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, including meeting deadlines and working effectively in a team.
  • The ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise tact, diplomacy, discretion, and sensitivity is essential.
  • Current and valid drivers license with access to a reliable vehicle (travel is required).
  • The successful candidate must successfully complete a comprehensive clerical test.
