About the roleAll progress begins with pioneers. At Rio Tinto, it begins with you.We are looking for an Injury & Benefits Management Officer to join the BC Works Occupational Health Team. In this key role, you will coordinate medical case-management activities, provide reporting and administration to the department, and perform stakeholder communication related to the Rio Tinto Injury and Illness Management Program.This is a great opportunity for a collaborative and detail-oriented individual to play an integral role in the Rio Tinto Aluminium (RTA) Health safety and environment team.We are an open, connected global team that includes some of the industry’s best and brightest minds. With a global reach, the opportunities to develop and grow your career are broad and exciting.Reporting to the Occupational Health Team Lead, and working a Monday to Friday schedule, you will be:
  • Preparing reports, performing record-keeping, and general administrative tasks for Rio Tinto Injury & Illness Management program and Occupational Health Department
  • Processing case updates and updating medical records accordingly
  • Coordinating, scheduling, and monitoring progress of medical surveillance activities
  • Administrating WorkSafeBC claims
  • Administrating Short-term Disability and Long-term Disability cases for unionized and non-unionized employees
  • Assisting with return-to-work processes
  • Supporting development of and monitoring clinic key performance indicators
  • Communicating with a range of stakeholders pertaining to cases
  • Using effective communication skills to interact with internal and external stakeholders
  • Working at a fast pace with a high attention to detail
  • Liaising with employees who are off work for an injury or illness
  • Supporting health promotion programs
  • Complying with confidentiality protocol for managing employee personal and medical information

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • A minimum of a high school diploma
  • At least 3 years of experience in Injury Management, WorkSafeBC claims administration, and administration of workplace benefits
  • Advanced computer abilities using Microsoft Office and Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communication with a wide range of stakeholders with tact, diplomacy, and care
  • The ability to compile and maintain complex and confidential records and prepare routine reports, with a high attention to detail and confidentiality
  • Effective collaboration within a team and independently
  • Able to work within a fast-pace and adapt to changing environments
  • A high attention to detail
It will also be beneficial if you have one or a combination of the following:
  • Injury Management training/ certification and experience
  • Work disability prevention training/ certification and experience
  • Medical records clerk training
  • Experience using Cority (or other electronic medical record program), SAP, and payroll software such as AS400 and ACT
  • Experience in Occupational Health-related field and/or workplace benefits
  • Qualification in Human Resources
