Intern – Communities and Communications (C&C)

  • Summer Internship (May to August 2022)
About the roleWe are looking for a Communities and communications Intern with strong interpersonal and proven strategic skills to contribute to our Aluminium division’s CC team in Kitimat at our Rio Tinto Aluminium group facility. You will be part of a cross-disciplinary group of colleagues throughout the province in building collaborative and lasting relationships with community partners.This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic individual who has a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently to showcase their talents.Reporting to the Manager, Communities communications, you will be:
  • Help the team in developing and enhancing its relationships with communities, including our Indigenous partners
  • Be part of the team to develop & implement strategic community engagement plans to support business objectives and create long lasting partnerships in the region
  • Assist in strengthening partnerships with community leaders
  • Support communication, video, written communication, and social media to share information on Rio Tinto’s operation
Your contribution
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Successfully completed at least one year of a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Communications, Environment and Social Performances or any related field
  • Highly motivated and strong people engagement skills – empathetic and excellent listening skills
  • Experience working independently and as part of a team, and exercising sound judgment, while meeting critical deadlines is essential.
  • Demonstrated competencies in problem solving of complex matters, from identification of objectives and determine the process to achieve desirable outcomes.
  • Capacity to navigate changing environments
