Manager – Communities, Social Performance, and Communication

  • Manage community commitments and opportunities across the Northwest BC region in connection with our BC Works operations, including Kitimat and watershed region
  • Build enduring relationships between our operations and communities, including First Nations and other stakeholders
  • Role based in Kitimat, BC

At Rio Tinto, it begins with you.We are looking for a Communities, Social Performance, and Communication Manager to support BC Works Operations to implement improvements to the way we work with communities, including First Nations on whose land we operate. This role will play an important part in building long-term, deep, and positive relationships with First Nations, developing solutions and initiatives that benefit communities and support BC Works’ social license to operate in the Northwest region of BC.This is a great opportunity for an engaging leader who has a strong capability of relationship-building and communication.We are an open, connected global team that includes some of the industry’s best and brightest minds.   • Building CSP management, capacity and outcomes across our assets and communities
  • Supporting BC Works operation’s strategic priorities through the implementation of long-term Community and Social Performance Plans across multiple disciplines and locations
  • Building enduring community relationships and implementing processes to understand and support the management of social or cultural expectations in communities in which we operate
  • Delivering strategies and programs that meet the expectations of the community, key stakeholders, our employees, and our operations, including First Nations partners
  • Ensuring clear and transparent communication
  • Regular travel across the region is required as part of the role

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Demonstrated passion for building relationships, building deep community knowledge, and striving to bring benefits through proven communication, project and risk management, and social performance
  • Proven ability to build positive relationships
  • Qualifications in Social Science / Community Development / Community Services / Community Engagement / Communication
  • A broad background ideally with experience working in mining & resources, construction, facilities, or utilities in an interfacing role
  • Experience with risk identification and management
  • Excellent people, teamwork, and communication skills
