About the roleAll progress begins with pioneers. At Rio Tinto, it begins with you.We are looking for a Training Superintendent to provide leadership to area and central Learning & Development team members; and to ensure the highest quality standards for the delivery of training content, facilitation of practical activities and assessment of knowledge and competency across the BC Works Aluminum Smelter & Power Operations site.The role is a great opportunity for a collaborative and knowledgeable leader to grow their career in a stimulating operational environment, where you will be working closely with both functions and operations.We are an open, connected global team that includes some of the industry’s best and brightest minds. With a global reach, the opportunities to develop and grow your career are broad and exciting.Reporting to the Atlantic Operations Learning & Development Manager, and working a Monday to Friday schedule you will:
  • Work safely and ensure the safety of your team in accordance with Rio Tinto health, environmental, safety and community (HSEC) standards
  • Ensure effective and efficient planning and management of the central Learning & Development team
  • Drive initiatives in relation to training strategy, programs, and structure to support business objectives
  • Provide orientation and support for the application of best practices in Learning & Development
  • Manage training improvement projects
  • Facilitate the training-related committees and network
  • Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team, Functions, and the Union

  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team
  • Highly motivated and strong people engagement skills – empathetic and excellent listening skills
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement
  • Exercising sound judgment, and managing multiple on-going projects while meeting critical deadlines
  • Experience working independently, and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated competencies in problem solving of complex matters, from identification of objectives to determining the process to achieve desirable outcomes
  • Capacity to navigate changing environments
  • Current certification related to Workplace Training and Assessment or international/national equivalent
  • Comprehensive communication skills (verbal and written)
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience and competent leadership capability at Superintendent level
  • Experience in the heavy industry such as mining, manufacturing, or processing
  • Willingness to undertake language coaching
It will also be beneficial if you have:
  • French language proficiency
  • University diploma related to adult learning or learning in the workplace, HR or administration CTDP (or similar certification)
