Job description:As Educational Services Manager, your primary duty is to ensure the smooth operation of the Interpretive Guiding team. This includes (but is not limited to) attending meetings with upper management, creating, and presenting an annual budget, program development, and team logistics (such as hiring, training, and scheduling). As a senior member of the team, you will also have the opportunity to guide regularly in addition to your other duties.Job Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the daily operations of the Educational Services Department with help of the Educational Services Supervisor
  • Accomplish financial objectives and strategic goals by forecasting requirements; analyzing variances and initiating corrective actions
  • Complete, submit and review reports (e.g. inventory, sales and daily reports) to determine the operational activities of the department and ensure optimum performance
  • Provide constant feedback to upper management on the status of staffing, bookings, and financial budgets
  • Ensure all departmental policies and procedures follow legislated requirements, including the Parks Canada Act
  • Continued commitment to high standards of service, exceeding Customer expectations and leading by example
  • Conduct interpretive presentations, hikes and walks when needed
  • Develop and implement new business strategies to improve departmental performance
  • Plan, oversee and conduct ongoing staff-training
  • Accomplish positive staff results by communicating job expectations; planning, monitoring, and appraising job results; coaching employees; enforcing policies and disciplinary actions, developing, and coordinating procedures, and productivity standards
  • Ensure that staff members follow through with the objectives of the department and remain vigilant at engaging guests
  • Ensure the department maintains a strong working and communication relationship with other operational departments and advise the department head of any concerns with either or recommended changes
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills to communicate effectively with all levels within the organization and with external stakeholders
  • 2+ years of management experience in a customer service role
  • Education, training and experience in the area of interpretive guiding, education and the environment are considered a strong asset
  • In-depth knowledge about the Lake Louise Ski Resort, Lake Louise and Banff National Park considered a strong asset
  • Ability to spend multiple hours working outside in all weather conditions
  • Service oriented, able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally
  • Computer literate with strong proficiency using programs such as Windows and Outlook
  • Ability to identify key issues and to overcome challenges creatively and strategically
  • Able to engage enthusiastically with large groups of people
  • Able to multitask and respond quickly in a dynamic and changing environment
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s license (or international equivalent) with clean drivers abstract and insurance history for the last 3 years
  • Apprentice Interpreter, Group management and First Aid courses required (Visit www.interpretiveguides.org for more details.)
  • Preference will be given to candidates with PI or ACMG hiking accreditation
  • Fluency or working knowledge of other languages is considered an asset
  • A Police Background Check from your home country or province will be required upon commencement of employment
