Job description:As Educational Services Supervisor, your primary duty is to oversee the day-to-day operation of the Interpretive Guiding team, reporting to the Educational Services Manager. These duties include (but are not limited to) troubleshooting logistical issues, supporting the guiding team, assisting with program development, and acting on behalf of the Educational Services Manager when required. As a senior member of the team, you will also have the opportunity to guide regularly in addition to your other duties. Wage will be determined based on your level of certification, and the start date for the position will be ASAP.Job Responsibilities:
  • Supervise all Interpretive Guides on a daily basis
  • Conduct interpretive presentations, hikes and walks when needed
  • Conduct interviews and hire staff for operating season with assistance from Management and Human Resources
  • Coordinate staff-training including preparation of a training manual of existing interpretive programs
  • Review existing material for relevance and help in the development and implementation of new programs, exhibits and the interpretive department manual
  • Work closely with the department head to ensure that the department is fiscally responsible to the operational budget but remains flexible in seeking ways to make improvements and increase revenue
  • Coach and motivate staff, encourage staff to participate in improvements to the program and interpretive center and other areas of the summer operation
  • Prepare weekly staff schedules
  • Prepare weekly reports
  • Submit and approve employees hours in payroll system on a bi-weekly basis
  • Conduct departmental meetings on a weekly basis
  • Ensure that staff members follow through with the objectives of the department and remain vigilant at engaging guests
  • Ensure the department maintains a strong working and communication relationship with other operational departments and advise the department head of any concerns with either or recommended changes
  • Responsible for ensuring all season end requirements are fulfilled and displays properly stored.
  • Preparation of end of season employee evaluations
Job Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Strong communication skills in order to deal with staff and guests sensitively, diplomatically, and professionally at all time
  • Be able to spend multiple hours working outside in all weather conditions
  • Service oriented, able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times
  • Be able to engage enthusiastically with large groups of people
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to work with a team, as well as independently
  • Ability to analyze and interpret the needs of guests and offer the appropriate information required
  • Ability to supervise employees, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work and that they are being productive and actively engaging our guests
  • Able to multitask and respond quickly in a dynamic and changing environment
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s license (or international equivalent) with clean drivers abstract and insurance history for the last 3 years
  • Apprentice Interpreter, Group management and First Aid courses required (Visit www.interpretiveguides.org for more details)
  • Preference will be given to candidates with PI or ACMG hiking accreditation
  • Education, training and experience in the area of interpretive guiding, education and the environment are an asset
  • Fluency or working knowledge of other languages is considered an asset
  • Previous customer service supervisory experience considered a strong asset
  • A Police Background Check from your home country or province will be required upon commencement of employment
