Where else will you get to create a personal wellness plan as part of your performance goalsPosition SummaryThe Nursing Program Assistant supports the delivery of Nursing services that honour the customs and traditions of First Nations communities.Under the supervison of the Nurse In Charge or Community Health Nurse, you will provide a variety of administrative support and general information services to First Nations clients, partners, and communities.Union: PSACHours: 37.5As a health and wellness organization, the First Nations Health Authority has aligned with the Provincial Public Health Order released on October 14, 2021. We have a mandatory COVID-19 vaccination policy for all employees at First Nations Health Authority. This policy requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. If selected for employment, you will be required to provide proof of vaccination by providing a copy of your BC Vaccination Card Passport with the QR code.ResponsibilitiesYou will be responsible for the following:

  • Provides reception services, makes client appointments, and provides forms and general program information, such as how to complete forms and phone numbers for key contacts to clients. Transfers Communicable Disease Control records to other health authorities and/or doctors’ offices, and refers requests for chart transfers to nursing management.
  • Establishes, obtains, and updates pertinent patient information, and establishes and maintains patient, administrative, and health and/or nursing program files and manuals. Forwards files of deceased persons to nursing management, boxes files, and types file lists in preparation for archiving.
  • Maintains an inventory of office and medical supplies by identifying substitution options to nursing staff, placing orders, following up with suppliers, verifying shipments for completeness and/or accuracy, and storing and distributing supplies, including receipt and appropriate storage of vaccines. Arranges for lab sample shipping and takes them to the local departure site as required.
  • Searches electronic and hard copy records, and compiles data used to prepare nursing program information, including information required for production of annual immunization reports and communicable disease outbreak statistical information.
  • Performs word processing of reports and other documents for nursing staff, such as maintenance of communicable disease, nursing, unusual occurrence, and immunization reports, and monthly nursing program activity calendars.

  • Grade 12, including completion of one year of post secondary education in Business or Office Administration, plus one (1) year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Attributes
  • Knowledge of First Nations traditions and etiquette
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of security and privacy procedures to safeguard patient information.
  • Ability to operate related computer software, such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of general office procedures to order, track, verify receipt, store, and distribute supplies.
