Malahat NationMalahat Nation is Hiring!!Environment Program CoordinatorReports to: Manager of Environmental ProjectsAnticipated Start Date: November 15, 2021Terms of Employment: Full-TimeJob PurposeTo integrate, plan, track, and manage environment and marine shipping-related initiatives and data collection within the Malahat Environment department.With increasing commercial, recreational, and industrial activity in the Salish Sea, Malahat Nation is prioritizing protection of the important cultural and environmental resources that are a part of Malahat Nation’s territory. Under the Supervision of the Manager of Environmental Projects, and in collaboration with other members of the Malahat Lands and Environment team, the successful applicant will coordinate activities to support Malahat leadership in managing environmental and marine shipping concerns. With their excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, the successful applicant will contribute to enhancing Malahat’s community based capacity for planning and emergency response capabilities. Malahat Nation has been dedicated to protecting and understanding these ecosystems since time immemorial and must be a part of building the understanding required to manage these valuable resources effectively.Duties and ResponsibilitiesContribute to department planning for mitigating marine shipping impacts throughout Malahat Nation’s marine territory Organize and track project progress, budgets, and timelinesReport regularly on the progress of Malahat environmental programsPlan community outreach, engagement, and communication eventsWork efficiently with Malahat Nation and other agencies such as Government, local businesses, neighboring First Nations, and the general publicHelp create a nurturing learning environment for other members of the teamMaintain an open and positive attitude towards Coast Salish/Malahat culture and historyModel positive behaviors and attitudesParticipate in training and staff meetings as requiredOther duties as requiredCredentials/Qualifications Required:Bachelor’s degree, diploma or certificate in a relevant area of study or 5 years relevant professional experience.Strong organizational skillsFlexibility to work in a dynamic environmentThe ideal candidate will also have the following skills:Knowledge of Coast Salish Culture and strong interest in continued learning about culture, tradition and ways of life Knowledge of marine ecosystemsExperience working in a professional workplace and being an effective member of a teamStrong communication skills, verbally and in writingAbility to work well and communicate appropriately with a wide range of people and professionalsStrong technical skills with programs such as Microsoft Office Suite and OutlookCompensation and work requirements40 hours per weekFlexibility with hours, primarily Monday – FridayCompensation $64,000 per annumBenefit package included for full-time employee after 3-month probation period2 weeks paid vacation annuallyAbility to work from home while COVID – 19 public health and safety measures are in effect.Please Submit the FollowingCover letterResume including 3 current referencesRelevant CredentialsOnly applications with a cover letter AND a resume will be consideredTo Tristan Gale, Executive Director of Environment and Sustainable DevelopmentBy email to: careers@malahatnation.comClosing Date: October 27, 2021Education : Bachelor’s degreeExperience : 5 years or moreQuick Apply
