The Perenti Group operates across a wide range of mining sectors and offers unique career progression opportunities.The Opportunity:Barminco Mining Services Canada Ltd. has an exciting opportunity for Jumbo Operators that have experience in bolting and boring with Sandvik 421 Jumbos. Joining the Barminco team at Hemlo, you will be surrounded by a high performing development team striving for highly safe and productive work.

  • Working a rotation of 14-shifts on and 14-days off (day and night shifts)
  • Open to residents of Canada
  • This position is a drive-in/drive-out role if you reside outside the Marathon/Manitouwadge Ontario area.
Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, the successful candidate will present as a leader of the underground crews, responsible for their safety, the safety of their offsiders, and the mentoring and coaching of the broader development crews. The expectation is you can work autonomously supporting development rounds with the jumbo and drilling it out to our clients’ designs.More specifically, our Jumbo Operators will:
  • Follow plans to ensure efficient mining, mindful of the effects of overbreak and poorly drilled rounds
  • Understand and assess different ground conditions
  • Work autonomously, driven to succeed and keen to undertake new tasks and learn new skills
  • Mentor, coach the development team, imparting knowledge to the newer generations of miners
  • Assisting the services, development charge-up, and scoop team where required
  • Be mechanically minded, understand the operation of the drill rigs, and rectify problems when able to
  • Act as a leader of the development crew
Skills and Experience:
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalency
  • Demonstrated commitment to working safely while ensuring the safety of others
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in underground hard rock mining
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience operating Jumbos
  • Underground Hard Rock Mining Common Core
  • Strong organizational, planning and time management skills
  • Strong communications skills, verbal and written
  • Be flexible and willing to assist with a variety of tasks as required
  • Ability to learn new tasks quickly
  • Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment
