Job Description

  • Location: Hemlo Operations, near Marathon, Ontario
  • Open to Canadian Residents (or Residents of Marathon/Manitouwadge area)
  • 7 shifts-on / 7 shifts-off (days and nights)

At Barminco Mining Services Canada Ltd., we are committed to fostering a culture that understands and values inclusion and diversity.The Opportunity: Barminco Mining Services Canada Ltd. has an exciting opportunity to join our Shaft Services crew at the Hemlo Operations.Working a rotation of 7-shifts on / 7-shifts offShifts are days and nights, 12 hours.Reporting to the Shift Supervisor, the successful candidate will be responsible for their safety and the safety of their co-workers while ensuring the safe transportation of personnel and material from the surface to the underground and back.More specifically, the Shaft Services Crew will:
  • Follow all safety and standard operating procedures to operate hoists, skips and crushers in an underground environment
  • Perform pre-start safety inspections of equipment and report any issues to their supervisor and maintenance crew
  • Operate the hoist to transport personnel, goods and waste/ore to and from the underground mine
  • Operate ore crushers underground to crush waste/ore material in preparation for transport to surface
  • Operate underground conveyor systems (skips) to transport waste/ore material to surface
  • Operate other mining equipment as required from time to time such as loaders, jack-leg drills among others
  • Other general duties as required
Skills and Experience:
  • Must be a current employee of Barminco at the Hemlo Operations
  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalency
  • Demonstrated commitment to working safely while ensuring the safety of others
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in an underground mine
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience operating conveyors, hoist systems would be an asset
  • Previous experience operating mobile equipment underground such as trucks, loaders, jack-legs would be an asset
  • Strong organizational, planning and time management skills
  • Strong communications skills, verbal and written, and must be computer/systems literate
  • Be flexible and willing to assist with a variety of tasks as required
  • Ability to learn new tasks quickly
  • Ability to work in a cross-cultural environment
