POSITION OVERVIEWQikiqtani Industries Limited (QIL) is a 100% Inuit-owned company of Qikiqtaaluk Corporation and provides Inuit owned industrial capacity to companies and developers in the Canadian Arctic with a primary focus on the mining, oil, and gas sector.KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESThis includes but is not limited to the following:· Attend daily pre-shift safety toolbox meeting with QIL coordinator or housekeeping supervisor, on time.· Complete and keep on their person a FLRA booklet during shift.· Learn the layout of the port site to easily navigate through the site· Perform the polar bear monitoring, other wildlife watch rounds, monitoring Nunavummiut hunters in proximity to work areas and duties as per the Baffinland Iron Mine Corporation (BIM) polar bear safety plan.· WLM will be driving on predetermined root to various area at the site. And requires to exit the vehicle to look for signs of wildlife and observe the area.· Learn the emergency reporting procedures and ‘Code 1’ procedures as per the BIM polar bear safety plan.· Learn and implement, if necessary, polar bear deterrent practices.· Report any wildlife sightings to BIM environment department.· Report to security after each monitoring round is complete every 2 hrs.· Ability to work under physically demanding, often adverse weather conditions of the Arctic Canada.· Follow time management guidelines such as shift start and finish, and break times; task time targets as set by QIL coordinator and housekeeping supervisor.· Comply with all BIM and QIL health and safety directives.· Other duties as indicated by QIL coordinator or housekeeping supervisor, including but not limited to housekeeping and janitorial services. (i.e. Fueling, Spotting, and simple labor).Minimum Requirements· Must be able to work in the remote and adverse conditions of Arctic Canada.· Must be in a good physical condition and able to walk long distances to monitor the surroundings of the site.· Previous experience as Hunter, trapper, camp safety operations, field dressing experience, guide outfitter or similar is a must.· Must be proficient in handling Fire Arms, possess a valid Possession and Acquisition License (PAL).· A valid driver’s license is required for the position.· Standard First Aid, CPR training with valid certificate is considered an asset to have.· Candidate should be able to communicate well in English.· Must be familiar with safety regulations and practices in the Canadian Arctic.· Cultural awareness and sensitivity of work in the Canadian Arctic.· Must be able to work alone in an office if required.Job Type: SeasonalContract length: 6 monthsBenefits:
