About usTata Steel Minerals Canada Limited (TSMC) with its headquarters in Montreal, operates iron ore mines in the provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador and Quebec, in the Menihek region in Labrador, near the town of Schefferville (Quebec). TSMC is a joint venture between Tata Steel Limited and New Millennium Capital Corp. Tata Steel, part of the Tata Group of Companies, is one of the world’s top 10 steel producers and a Fortune 500 company.The main pick-up points are St. John’s, Gander and Deer Lake in NL, Halifax in NS, Moncton in NB, and Montreal in QC.The opportunityWe are currently seeking two experienced Training Specialists to join our team to work on a Fly-in/Fly-out basis of 2 weeks on site and 2 weeks Off site, with a standard 12 hours/day schedule. Operations at our mine site are running 24/7 all year long.Reporting to the Site HR Assistant Manager, the General Trainer will work collaboratively with the crew and the wider site team towards delivering safe, high-quality training and results. The incumbent will thrive on meeting the goals and challenges of the department, while acting with fairness and integrity in all that you do.Major Responsibilities

  • Responsible to conduct the induction training for all new employees, contractors, vendors, and visitors, both in English and in French. Improve the Onboarding and the induction training program
  • Assisting in the upskilling and training of experienced and new employees, trainees and contractors
  • Support technical trainers in developing, maintaining, and delivering specific training packages
  • Support Safety Department in developing, maintaining, and delivering specific training packages or support in different safety activities as required
  • Run training expiry reports to ensure competencies are current
  • Ensure the onsite training systems are maintained to a high level of accuracy, are reliable and functional in both the site access requirements and contractor management processes
  • Oversee the site induction process, site training calendar and designated training days
  • Maintain training function documentation (update training database, training documentations, forms and packages) and issue licenses
  • Implement and track approved Safety and/or Training Project as required
  • Provide monthly reporting requirements associated with the training function
  • Liaise with management regarding the competence of learners and make sure that learners meet requirements
  • Ensure that the learning materials are corrected and updated and that machines and tools for training are available
  • Perform one-on-one on-the-job training, solve training problems
  • Must be prepared to work outside normal working hours, shifts and overtime if required to do so
Your Profile
  • Diploma in Technical Field connected with mining sector, or in Safety, or in HR, or in Education.
  • Minimum Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
  • Three years Trainer experience as in mining or other similar sector with a minimum of 3 years operational experience
  • Must be able to provide training in both English and French (bilingualism is required)
  • Facility to interact with people
  • Sound communication and organizational skills
  • Strong safety and performance culture
  • Ability to make quick decisions and problem solving
  • Ability to work to plan to achieve business goals
  • Proficient with Microsoft office suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point
