Job Description

Tajikeimɨk is seeking two Research Associates to work together as the L’nu Nursing Data Project team. The team will be responsible to complete an environmental scan of the current data collection tools, practices and reporting needs related to Mi’kmaq and Indigenous nursing students and the Indigenous nursing workforce in Nova Scotia.Temporary Position: Immediate start until September 2, 2022The Opportunity:

  • Work as a member of a project team (Nursing and Information Management/Information Technology) to complete the environmental scan. This project is informed by the need to better understand the number of students applying and being accepted into the four nursing schools as well as the student experiences in nursing school in order to better support successful graduation and transition to nursing roles in Nova Scotia
  • The project will make recommendations on how to gather information about students, meeting the needs of the students, Mi’kmaq communities, nursing schools, and government departments (Department of Advanced Education, Department of Health and Wellness, Office of Health Professional Recruitment). Recommendations will be informed by the First Nations principles of Ownership, Control, Access, and Possession (https://fnigc.ca/ocap-training/)
What we’re looking for: Nursing
  • You are a Mi’kmaq or Indigenous Registered Nurse currently involved in graduate studies.
  • Will also consider Mi’kmaq or Indigenous students currently studying at the degree/diploma level with relevant experiences.
  • You have an interest in connecting with Mi’kmaq nurses, leaders and communities and related organizations about how to increase the number of Mi’kmaq nurses and increase the access to culturally safe health care for Mi’kmaq people and communities in Nova Scotia.
  • You have knowledge about information collection, management, reporting and confidentiality and are interested in learning more.
Information Management/Information Technology
  • You are a Mi’kmaq or Indigenous Information Technology and Management professional currently involved in graduate studies.
  • Will also consider Mi’kmaq or Indigenous students currently studying at the degree/diploma level with relevant experiences.
