Job Description

Family Services of Peel (FSP) is a progressive, multi-service Agency offering a dynamic work environment and culture. Applications are currently being accepted for a full-time Career Coach in our Employment Ontario (EO) Program.Job Responsibilities

  • Conduct consultations/needs assessments with clients to identify their needs and assist them in achieving their employment goals,
  • Provide assistance with training essentials identified through Employment Action Plan
  • Provide clients with one-on-one support and guidance to aid them in making informed decisions regarding their employment goals (Employability Assessment Model)
  • Assist clients in developing employability skills that include but are not limited to job readiness skills, job search strategies, résumé and cover letter writing, interview preparation, and workplace culture
  • Provide clients with appropriate resources and information and assist them with determining employment support needs and conduct community referrals
  • Administer standardized assessments to determine client interests, aptitudes, abilities and career path
  • Identify placement needs and assist clients with securing a work placement according to stream
  • Process Second Career applications
  • Develop, facilitate and coordinate employment-based workshops and information sessions for clients and promote services available at Family Services of Peel and within the community
  • Participate in job fairs and hiring events internally and within the community
  • Support and monitor clients progressing through their Employment Action Plan and monitor at appropriate intervals
  • Provide clients with support and referrals to access programs and community services
  • Assess clients’ need for additional supports such as rehabilitation, financial aid and/or vocational training
  • Conduct follow-ups with clients and record outcomes
  • Assist clients with connecting to mentors and coaches
  • Liaise with Program Manager, Family Services of Peel staff, employers, and government and community agencies to facilitate clients’ progress
  • Data Management: Input and maintain internal and external databases (in accordance with funding requirements) in accordance with established timeline
  • Case Management: Complete case notes and update client and employer files in accordance with established timeline
  • Contract Management: Administer and monitor work placement contracts and financial aspects including wage incentives and invoices
  • Prepare monthly and statistical reports
  • Coordinate and monitor support services for clients based on funding requirements
  • Facilitate collection of client proof of employment documentation and complete employer evaluations
  • Assist in the development of workshops and evaluations
  • Contribute to the development of client forms and service delivery documentation
  • Participate in outreach activities and represent the Agency on committees
  • Develop and facilitate community engagement activities for community stakeholders
  • Assist with the development of promotional material and communications to employers and clients
  • Coordinate with community partners to develop and deliver workshops
  • Career Coaches will assist with the development of a marketing and outreach strategy to support client placement and employment, as required
  • Foster relationships with employers working with clients
  • Support work placements according to streams
  • Conduct cold calls with employers and community partners, as needed
  • Assist in organizing information sessions, networking, professional development and career related activities for clients and employers
  • Work with Job Developer to provide direct job matching for clients
  • Monitor work placements of clients in employment
  • Collaborate with key employers to market and recruit through community initiatives
  • Participates in team meetings and provides input and ideas for improving services
  • Contributes to team assignments and projects
  • Shares in handling workload for positive results
  • Works collaboratively and effectively with all members of the employment programs
  • Maintains the strictest confidence for all matters related to work in the Agency in accordance with relevant agency policy and practice
  • Participates in orientation and training of new employees or students
  • Monitors requirements and upgrades knowledge and skills for client service
  • Performs other relevant duties as assigned for team or Agency
Key Qualifications
  • Post-secondary degree in the areas of Human Services, Social Work, Business, or Career Counselling
  • Strong networking skills and knowledge of employers in a range of sectors
  • Excellent networking, presentation, and organizational skills
  • Minimum of two (2) years paid work experience in the career services sector
  • Demonstrated experience in sales, building partnerships, innovation, coaching and facilitating change
  • Demonstrated experience working with individuals and facilitating groups for clients facing multiple barriers to employment
  • Extensive knowledge of the Canadian labour market, Canadian workplace practices, job search strategies and techniques
  • Familiarity with community social services, resources and knowledge of the Ontario Works Program
  • Proven ability to work in a performance-based system with a solid record of accomplishment in meeting targets and outcomes
  • Demonstrated knowledge in labour market, trends, sector skill gaps, and occupational requirements
  • Demonstrated cultural competency; ability to work with diverse populations; understanding of immigrants, women and under/unemployed individuals; familiarity with gender equity issues and anti-racism strategies
  • Superior written and verbal command of the English language
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and knowledge of privacy legislation
  • Proven ability to work in changing environment, multi-tasking ability and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently, as well as work collaboratively and effectively with all team members
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office, internet, database management) and familiarity with social media
  • Ability to work from home, consisting of a safe and private home office setting and the necessary technical equipment and high-speed Internet access for remote work
  • Familiarity with virtual work platforms
  • Flexibility to work from a variety of locations
  • A valid Ontario driver’s license, clean driving record, appropriate insurance, and daily access to a reliable vehicle
  • Additional language(s) an asset
  • Flexibility to work days/evenings/week-ends
