With our continued expansion into new markets and new supply chain capabilities, our future is one of growth and opportunity.PurposeThis position plays a key role in the NLS finance team, providing analysis of company financial performance, support for the quarterly forecasting and annual budgeting process, creation and maintenance of client level profitability information, support for the company’s transportation operations and support for capital purchasing decisions. The financial analyst will help us learn from the past and chart our course to the future.Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update forecast and budget support files for assigned locations and cost centres of the company, utilizing information from, financial reporting, work order management and billing, transportation management and warehouse management systems
  • Participate in quarterly forecast review meetings with assigned location and cost centre management and supply updates from those meetings to all participants.
  • Contribute management discussion and analysis commentary that accompanies the monthly financial reporting for assigned locations and cost centres
  • Monthly review client billing and carrier posting to draft required cost and revenue accruals/adjustments for completion of month end process
  • Analyze client profitability results, providing insight to areas of under or over performing profitability, investigating these results. Work with location, cost centre and corporate management to support further action
  • Under the direction of the Senior Manager, FP&A, help create a sustainable profitability by client view within the financial reporting system
  • Identify and maintain activity-based cost drivers within the financial reporting system, through consultation with location, cost centre and corporate management to support client level profitability reporting
  • Load updated forecasts into the financial reporting and labour performance tracking tools
  • Create and maintain ad hoc long term financial projections when needed
  • Support capital purchasing and facility expansion project decisions through ROI/IRR analysis models.
  • Work with project initiators to refine expected benefits and spend
  • Develop project cost tracking and reporting
  • Provide decision support where needed to quantify the financial impact of proposed operational or spending changes
  • Support system and process improvements in the finance area
  • Perform posting verification and posting of Transport client invoicing and carrier payables
  • Weekly review of automated transportation carrier invoices exceptions and resolution with transportation operations
  • Assist transport operations in completion of carrier and client integration into transportation management and billing system
Qualifications
  • Post-Secondary education in Business Administration or Accounting and/or previous related experience
  • Previous financial analysis experience in a mid to large size organization, ideally with a third-party logistics or transportation brokerage company
  • Post-Secondary education in Business Administration or Accounting and/or previous related experience
  • Experience in project cost benefit analysis
  • Familiarity with computerized accounting systems (ideally Microsoft Dynamics GP and Management Reporter)
  • Familiarity with transportation management systems (BluJay, TMS, Descartes)
  • Strong analytical and computer skills specifically in Microsoft Excel
  • Familiarity with forecasting methodologies and activity based reporting and analysis
  • Strong understanding of business operations and logistics
  • Ability to take initiative and provide value added support
  • Able to work successfully with all levels of the organization
  • Strong organizational, communication and problem solving abilities
  • Proficient with MS Office, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel
