That’s what #LifeAtCummins is all about.Fuel Cell Power Module R&D ManagerDescriptionWe are looking for a talented Fuel Cell Power Module R&D Manager to join our team #NewPower Business Unit in Mississauga, Ontario.This developing technical leadership position develops and delivers technical talent in a research, technology or product development environment. Directly manages the resources that maximize workgroup productivity in support of business needs and implements near term business strategies with a focus on execution. The position also includes maintaining strong working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders both within the technical function and across the broader business.

  • Primary responsibility is the development of technically capable people often across multiple technical sites within a business unit or corporate, and making these people available to perform duties necessary to satisfy the businesses technical needs.
  • Provides problem resolution leadership for complex systems with a high degree of ambiguity and often global business impact; helps get teams in place.
  • Leads the development and improvement of work processes and systems across function(s) within a global business unit or managing improvement across business units.
  • Coaches and mentors employees to provide guidance and direction on resolving problems, technical know-how, removing barriers to progress and career path planning. Assesses performance and provides feedback to direct reports.
  • Creates, manages, improves and applies work processes involving activities such as resource allocation and management, organizational and business change, customer/stakeholder management and knowledge management; all used for the purposes of enabling high quality decision making that meets business expectations.
  • Decisions made in this role may include resource deployment cost and timing allocations, project prioritization, personnel staffing, and Annual Operating Plan (AOP) management, the result of which can impact project cost and delivery within a site or across several sites within a business unit.
  • Establishes employee performance standards; works collaboratively to set goals and address areas of deficiency.
Skills
  • System Requirements Engineering - Uses appropriate methods and tools to translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements to which designs are developed; establishes acceptance criteria for the system of interest through analysis, allocation and negotiation; tracks the status of requirements throughout the system lifecycle; assesses the impact of changes to system requirements on project scope, schedule, and resources; creates and maintains information linkages to related artifacts.
  • System Capability Engineering - Identifies system capability and risks through analysis or experimental testing of the system, sub-system, or super system in the context of its environment; negotiates and verifies requirements against capability to guide project scope and system development accordingly; assesses legacy system versus proposed new system solution capabilities and makes decisions as to how best to achieve system capability with consideration of stakeholder trade-offs.
  • Product Development Execution, Monitoring and Control - Plans, schedules, coordinates and executes the activities involved in developing a product to a respectively aligned hierarchy of requirements and technical profiles; monitors and communicates across functional boundaries to meet project resource and quality expectations; ensures product capability meets or exceeds expectations and takes mitigating actions when project risks are higher than expected; understands the full product life cycle process and stakeholders.
  • Project Management - Establishes and maintains the "Balanced Triangle" of Scope, Schedule and Resources for a temporary effort (a "project").
  • Technical Documentation - Documents information based on knowledge gained as part of technical function activities; communicates to stakeholders with the goal of enabling improved technical productivity and effective knowledge transfer to others who were not originally part of the initial learning.
  • Decision quality - Making good and timely decisions that keep the organization moving forward.
  • Communicates effectively - Developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.

Education, Licenses, Certifications
  • College, university, or equivalent Bachelors degree in Engineering or other relevant technical disciplines is required.
  • This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Experience
  • Prior Technical Specialist or entry level Technical/Engineering Management equivalent work experience in a product, technology or engineering service role with demonstrated success leading projects and influencing outcomes through either direct or indirect reporting relationships. Must have a demonstrated track record of technical problem solving, quality decision making, providing technical direction and leadership to a project team(s) and conflict resolution.
  • 20 years experience in a product development position.
  • Experience managing a team of 10 people for the development and validation of low pressure engines.
  • Experience working in an automotive industry. Experience with engine control module software development, enginemapping, engine development (such as torque mapping, air flow controls),emissions and dyno testing.
  • Experience commissioning complex electro-mechanical systems.
  • Experience working with battery, fuel cell or hybrid technology. Experience in the design of fuel cell power modules / engines.
  • The ability to create and review 2D/3D drawings. Ability to read electrical schematics, P&ID, bills of material andtechnical specifications, etc.
  • Participate in new fuel cell systemdevelopment, assist in improvement / optimization of electrical and mechanicalsub-systems for the product.
  • Experience in “hands-on” development of electromechanical prototypesand products.
  • Experience with electromechanical systems such as: pumps, blowers, sensors, valves andcompressors.
  • Knowledge of data acquisitionsystems (DAQ), including associated DAQ sensors such as thermocouples andpressure transducers.
  • Identify and implementelectro-mechanical engineering changes for improved manufacturability, costreduction, and improved quality of products.
  • Knowledge of a products certificationprocesses and the ability to coordinate the process with the requiredauthorities as per industry standards.
  • Strong troubleshooting skillscombined with analytical skills.
  • Ability to create test plans and test reports. Strong report writing skills.
