Specializing in immersive motion picture technologies, our employees are driven by a passion to take audiences around the world to places they have only dreamed of.Come explore IMAX – where innovation, creativity and passion come together!Required SkillsJob DescriptionReporting to the Director, Global People Operations, the Manager of Global Payroll will be accountable to manage the entire global payroll function with a direct team and third-party payroll vendors. This role will be responsible for the successful partnership with HR, Finance, Legal and other key stakeholders to deliver high level data accuracy and compliance related to payroll producers and polices.Responsibilities:

  • Manage the entire payroll full-cycle process, ensure Company employees from all locations (CAN, US, UK, IRL, AUS & JAP) are paid on time and correctly
  • Manage all aspects of the payroll system, lead the payroll administration team, and ensure all payroll accounting procedures are accurate
  • Ensure adherence to all HR Payroll procedures and policies internally and externally.
  • Create payroll strategy and processes; additionally, investigate and analyze reports to ensure payroll accuracy
  • Manage vendor relationship and projects with ADP Workforce Now Payroll, Time & Attendance and ADP Streamline; additionally, manage vendor relationships with international payroll processing partners
  • Collect payroll data for inclusion in tax returns, and provide support for audits, preparing year-end employee tax slips or forms and submitting government filings to meet deadlines
  • Work closely with external auditors to complete the Company’s annual audit of our company-sponsored retirement account, workers’ compensation audit and financial statements audit. Proactively prepare relevant management reports as needed
  • Ensure payroll compliance globally; prepare reports by compiling summaries of company earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability payments and non-taxable wages
  • Responsible for all year-end payroll taxation reporting and filing globally
  • Respond to legislative changes and provide advice and guidance as required
  • Ensure proper internal controls, system standards & documentation, policies and audit requirements are developed, met, and maintained
  • Partner with the Company’s Controller to ensure the design and operation of SOX compliant controls related to payroll
  • Support the budgeting and forecasting process for payroll costs
  • Prepare and analyze corporate financial information related to payroll
  • Manage/partner with Controller on the expatriate tax process, ensuring required inputs from external service provider are received on a regular cadence and supports related GL reconciliations
  • Identify any areas of improvement within the payroll process and lead the implementation of new payroll process, programs and systems
  • Document and maintain administrative procedures for assigned payroll and benefit processes and look for ways to improve existing processes and programs
  • Drive and champion operational change management activities for special projects, payroll enhancements, benefits administration, 3rd party vendor integrations and other payroll impacting programs
  • Analyze and document payroll process flow from end to end & determine opportunities for process improvements and standardize process controls
  • Troubleshoot and manage complex payroll interfaces to downstream systems – SAP, ADP, Towers Watson, Fidelity, and other benefits related interfaces
  • Collaborate with the business and IT teams to ensure business requirements are validated and project goals are achieved
  • Participate in and mentor others in gathering and documenting business specifications
  • Provide functional and technical expertise in creating and maintaining complex payroll reporting requirements
  • Lead various functional and integration testing efforts including creating and validating test cases/scenarios
Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree and a Certification/Licensure as a Certified Payroll Professional (CPP)
  • 5+ years of proven experience leading a global payroll function, establishing, managing and processing all functions of payroll, including in a multi-jurisdictional and multi-currency setting
  • Experience with expatriate tax process/programs and the associated accounting
  • Experience with ensuring compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, ADA and other regulatory standards
  • Strong accounting foundation including experience in owning and reconciling payroll related general ledger accounts and preparing payroll journal entries
  • Knowledge of relevant employment law, FMLA, overtime, disability, EEO, etc.
  • Ability to reconcile salary expenses as well as project salaries and reconcile to the actual salaries at the time of audit
  • Experience in the reconciliation of monthly benefits - employee deductions, employer contribution, and monthly invoice to the general ledger
  • Knowledge of and experience with COBRA
  • Must be able to perform all the duties of the Payroll Administrator, including processing payrolls timely and accurately
  • Strong communicator who is able to collaborate across functions
  • Previous experience with ADP, SAP or Workday a plus
