Job Description

Basic FunctionPetro-Canada Lubricants Inc.(PCLI), an HF Sinclair company, located in Mississauga, ON is seeking a Maintenance Technician – Instrumentation. Reporting to the Supervisor, the Maintenance Technician (Instrumentation Trade) is critical in maintaining the reliability of Lubricants Centre production. This safety-conscious individual will install, service and repair a variety of plant equipment. The successful candidate will participate and assist in establishing an environment which reflects craft flexibility and teamwork. Each individual is responsible for maintaining and enhancing their skills as well as sharing their skills and knowledge with others. This position primarily works a day shift with the potential of moving to a shift position.Job Duties

  • Experience with a variety of systems including Honeywell DCS/Experion/Safety Manager, control systems, PLC/Allen Bradley/Modicon operation and program troubleshooting, electrical/instrument control device settings and calibrations
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and make repairs
  • Implement preventative and predictive programs/assignments for instrument systems
  • Participate in failure analysis discussions
  • Maintain equipment histories as required
  • Plan and estimate jobs, including assessment, selection of material, etc.
  • Work effectively in a flexible Team environment and communicate clearly with others
  • Assist other Maintenance Technicians and Production as required
  • Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion
Experience
  • Minimum 4 years’ industrial experience (post apprenticeship)
  • Refinery experience preferred
Education Level
  • Successful completion of an approved apprenticeship program holding Instrument and Control License 447A
Required Skills
  • A demonstrated commitment to safety
  • The ability to read and understand relevant drawings - P&ID’s, loop drawings, schematics, etc.
  • Strong analytical/troubleshooting/decision making skills
  • Knowledgeable with DCS control system operation and configuration, PLC operation/programming, electrical/instrument, control device settings, and calibrations, etc.
  • High level of computer literacy
  • Must be a self-starter and demonstrate the ability to make sound decisions while working with limited supervision
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Good housekeeping standards
  • Knowledge of SAP a definite asset
  • Dual ticket with electrical license is beneficial
  • Experience with a wide variety of instruments including analyzers is an asset
Work Conditions
  • Required to work in all temperatures and subject to varying weather conditions. May be exposed to dust, dirt, mud, water, and petroleum products, etc. Work in high, precarious places up to 200ft. Outdoor duties under wet and/or humid conditions, at both below grade and elevated positions. Industrial environment, including, but not limited to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, steam lines, electricity, loud noise, vibrations, confined spaces and rotating equipment
  • As a condition of employment, it is mandatory that the successful candidate complete all phases of the Performance Based Progression program up to Technician 1 within specified timelines
  • Overtime is a requirement of this position
  • The starting hourly rate as per the Collective Agreement is $55.78
