Aligned with the Hospital’s strategic direction, the candidate will provide a full spectrum of legal services across the organization with an emphasis on corporate/commercial advice and legal services within a public hospital regulatory regime, enabling the delivery of outstanding health care to the community. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 to 5 years of post-call legal experience focused on corporate/commercial law, gained at a leading law firm or in-house legal department. The candidate will report directly to and support the accountabilities of the Director, Corporate Law and Insurance and will have the opportunity to do the following:JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Drafts and negotiates third party contracts, opinions and other legal documents;
  • Provides legal advice and information pertaining to the hospital’s research and innovation division;
  • Provides legal advice and information pertaining to hospital foundation matters;
  • Provides organization-wide legal advice and information pertaining to corporate/commercial, charity and not-for-profit, intellectual property and/or contractual privacy matters;
  • Supports contract management for the organization, working on occasion in collaboration with external procurement partners;
  • Actively supports corporate compliance with applicable laws and standards governing the organization’s operations;
  • Advises on the rollout of and compliance with regulatory changes in the healthcare sector;
  • Offers legal risk management advice.
JOB SPECIFICATIONSKnowledge, Experience and Skills
  • Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
  • At least 3 to 5 years of post-call corporate/commercial experience
  • An understanding of corporate/commercial, charity and not-for-profit, intellectual property, procurement and/or privacy laws
  • Experience supporting the healthcare industry is an asset
  • Commitment to the hospital’s strategic plan, including becoming an antiracist organization
  • High level of composure with the ability to demonstrate sound judgment, discretion, tact, collaboration and courtesy, with the ability to manage a demanding practice and maintain strict confidentiality
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Results-oriented and client-focused with a commitment to excellence
  • Strong conceptual skills, systems thinking and ability to deal with ambiguity
  • Superior analytical, problem solving, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to build effective working relationships with a dynamic, professional team
