Refer to the "How to apply" section if you require a disability-related accommodation.What can I expect to do in this roleIn this role, you will maintain related equipment in an advanced Class 4 wastewater treatment facility. This position will require you to oversee, operate, inspect, maintain and carry out repairs on complex and advanced water system equipment, such as mechanical and electrical valves, centrifugal pumps, chemical systems, and process control equipment. In carrying out these duties at the various pumping stations and feedermains, you will have the opportunity to work independently or when required, to work with a dedicated and skilled team.Equipped with personal protective equipment you will need to be able to work in all weather conditions, in confined spaces, dirty and/or noisy environments and have physical dexterity. In water / wastewater facilities, physical dexterity includes but is not limited to: walking, standing, sitting, lifting floor to waist, lifting waist to shoulder, kneeling, crouching, bending, twisting, stair climbing, ladder climbing, pushing, pulling, carrying, handling, fingering, reaching forward, reaching overhead.How do I qualifyMandatory

  • Ability to obtain Trades license as a Millwright and/or other trades certificates required.
  • Must have a Grade 12 diploma, or equivalent as recognized by the Ministry of Environment (MOE).
  • Ability to obtain Operator in Training (OIT) in the appropriate discipline as per the applicable regulation (O.Reg. 129/04 of the Ontario Water Resources Act).
  • Valid Class G Drivers licence.
  • Ability to work on a rotating shift schedule and be available to work on an on-call basis.
Knowledge includes
  • Excellent knowledge in the principles and practices necessary in the mechanical inspection and maintenance of advanced wastewater facilities and collection systems.
  • Excellent knowledge in the principles and practices necessary in the mechanical inspection and maintenance of advanced wastewater facilities and collection systems.
  • Knowledge of all relevant acts and regulations to ensure operational compliance.
  • General knowledge of industrial processes and maintenance and repair of a variety of equipment and structures to operate, inspect, clean and maintain them by conducting scheduled maintenance practices and recordings.
  • Monitoring local equipment conditions and equipment operations (flow rates, temperatures and pressures).
  • Knowledge of financial processes regarding expenditures and purchase orders.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and standard safety precautions including storage of chemicals, confined space entry, equipment lockout/tagging and personal protective equipment.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics and chemistry in order to make calculations regarding chemicals and operating processes.
  • Technical and electrical/mechanical knowledge.
  • Familiarity with computerized monitoring systems, such as SCADA, Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and overall computer literacy to record data from inspections and monitor activities to complete work orders and project forms to initiate repairs for maintenance.
Skills and Abilities include
  • Analytical and problem solving skills to identify and correct maintenance issues with equipment/ processes.
  • Organizational skills to lead extensive maintenance and repair projects.
  • Teamwork skills to work as part of a team, and to take initiative when required.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and follow process drawings to aid in troubleshooting equipment problems.
  • Ability to use and understand operating and maintenance manuals, and other technical specifications.
  • Good oral and written communication skills to liaise with staff and clients and to keep logs and complete reports.
  • A demonstrated interest in continuous learning.
