Job Description

Medical Science Liaison - Ophthalmology, ON & Western CanadaThe MSL shall act as a scientific expert between Bayer and the medical community through the dissemination and education of scientific data and material. The MSL establishes long-term scientific/strategic relationships with key, influential physicians/scientists and with related major medical associations and academic centers of excellence. These relationships will ensure that opinion leaders and organizations have access to relevant scientific information and that pertinent information is shared with the medical community. The MSL uses his/her experience and knowledge interacting with key external medical and pharmacy professionals through the process of education via one-on-one interaction; small group discussion and symposia lecture presentations including interactions associated with sponsored medical education programs and research protocols. The MSL will facilitate Opinion Leader involvement in national, regional and local educational forums including advisory boards, symposia and CME venues. The MSL also serves as an important partner to internal stakeholders within Bayer by communicating relevant information from Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs) to key cross-functional partners.This position requires full vaccination against COVID-19.What you will do:

  • Plans, prepares and engages with KOLs as an information
scientist and colleague both proactively and reactively via variousinnovative KOL engagements tactics and formats to providedissemination, clarification and education of scientific data, study protocols, meeting abstracts, and professional literature (Both proactive discussions onlabel,and reactive discussions for unsolicited off-label questions inalignment with local regulations)
  • Answers medical / scientific queries of Medical Societies with
regards to BSP products and organizing / supporting / participating inadvisory boards
  • Uses congresses and conventions to network with KOLs, establish
new contacts, and gather competitive intelligence
  • Plans and organizes scientific training and education events /
sessions with KOLs within their specific therapeutic area or product
  • Submits timely reports of field and event and tracking
activities against agreed objectives
  • Acts as a point of contact for investigators, facilitating the
interface with investigators and appropriate BSP personnel responsible for approval, and communication of study progress and completion
  • In alignment with product Medical Affairs plan, the MSL contributes to
internal understanding of specific KOL interests, expertise and impactin the medical community at large.
  • Provides assistance to Medical Advisors and Market Access and
supporting presentations of new information to hospital formularies and reimbursement decisions makers as required.
  • Serves as internal scientific expert by selective support to
training activities in addition to answering scientific / medicalqueries by the Sales Representatives (in conjunction with / as asupporting element to Medical Advisors)
  • Provides additional support (as required) to assist local
clinical operations personnel / Medical Advisors with respect to ISSproject trackingWho you are:
  • BSc., PhD, PharmD, or MSc.. (or other advanced or specialized degree in life sciences)
  • Ability to work successfully with cross-functional teams and influence appropriate plans and actions
  • Business acumen and understanding of business strategy
  • Scientific/medical expertise; detailed knowledge and understanding of the relevant therapeutic area is an asset
  • 2 years of industry experience is preferable
  • 1-2 years of experience in laboratories/research work preferable
  • Comfort with numbers and ability to extract insights from data
  • Be a strong change agent
  • Ability to travel nationally up to 20-30%, once COVID-19 travel restrictions are fully lifted
