Organization OverviewOur Place Peel is a growing, community-based, non-profit charitable organization that is focused on providing shelter and outreach support for homeless and disadvantaged youth in the Peel Region. We are a leading organization that is recognized in the community for our commitment to providing youth in need with a safe environment and access to services to help them achieve independence and foster growth.Vision - All youth have a place to call home.Mission - Empowering youth through prevention, intervention and support in accessing safe and sustainable housing.Position ProfileJOB TYPE: Full-TimeThe Harm Reduction Program Manager is responsible for leading and managing harm reduction provision within the shelter. The Harm Reduction Program Manager will be required to provide oversight, service coordination, programming and education to both employees and service users. Working from a trauma-informed framework and strengths-based perspective, the Harm Reduction Program Manager will support youth in the development of harm reduction plans to reduce the risk associated with substance use. They will work collaboratively with program staff and community partners to provide overdose prevention, education, advocacy and harm reduction supply distribution within the youth service sector in the Region of PeelRole Overview

  • Working from a trauma-informed framework and strengths-based perspective, provide short-term case management, overdose prevention education and harm reduction supply distribution to support youth in accessing harm reduction programs and services
  • Work with Peel Public Health in the distribution program for Our Place Peel
  • Implement harm reduction practices and lead in the development of harm reduction plans focused on the recovery model and stages of change
  • Provide supportive counselling and educational support to youth regarding emerging and persistent challenges related to addiction
  • Develop and facilitate workshops to address substance use and positive sexual health practices
  • Provide expertise, guidance, support and consultation to staff on overdose prevention, education, and harm reduction best practices
  • Compile statistical information and prepare monthly reports as required for program evaluation and development (i.e. NEO system)
  • Maintain confidential files and ensure all appropriate documentation is completed
  • Participate on committees and task forces with other agencies addressing issues facing youth
  • Occasional evening and weekend work may be required given the twenty-four-hour nature of our operations
Qualifications
  • University degree or equivalent in a related social services field.
  • 2-4 years of supervisory experience within the social service sector with a focus on supporting youth experiencing homelessness, mental illness and substance use.
  • A leader with excellent communication, presentation, organization and interpersonal skills with a passion for supporting the most vulnerable and marginalized youth in our community.
  • Experience in crisis support, harm reduction and crisis intervention and counselling
  • Cultural competency sensitivity and commitment to working through an anti-oppressive, anti-racism framework.
  • Experience addressing the needs of homeless clients, including making referrals to community agencies.
  • Experience with program evaluations and informed consent.
  • Valid CPI/UMAB and First Aid/CPR certifications
  • A valid Ontario Driver’s License, access to a vehicle and $2,000,000 (minimum) liability car insurance coverage is mandatory.
  • Satisfactory Police Records Check and Vulnerable position that meets the standards of the agencys policy.
  • Willingness to travel and must be able to work flexible hours including weekends, evenings and holidays and work at Brampton and/or Mississauga location.
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, subject to applicable legislation
