Operator, Household Hazardous WastePublic Works – Waste ManagementContract Full-Time, duration: 13 monthsReporting to the Team Lead, Household Hazardous Waste, you will co-ordinate the receiving, categorizing, storing and shipping of Hazardous Waste in accordance with Regional policies and Provincial regulationsResponsibilities:Responsible for the safe handling and storage of HHW to minimize detrimental effects on people and environmentTest and identify HHWUnderstand the chemical properties and incompatibilities of wasteEducate the public by answering all questions pertaining to HHW and other waste management programs and initiativesMaintain an accurate accounting system of waste collection activities to ensure compliance with the Environmental Compliance Approvals (ECAs), Certificates of Approval (C of As) and ministry of Environment (MOE) regulationsAssume the role of "incident Commander" provide leadership and implement emergency procedures when requiredSupervise studentsOther duties as assignedQualifications:Successful completion of a degree/diploma in Chemistry, Environmental or related field combined with a minimum of one (1) year experience handling hazardous materialKnowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, WHMIS and Regulation 347 of the Environmental Protection ActQuick decision-makingExcellent verbal and written communication skillsStrong computer skills with proficiency in ExcelInterpersonal skills and strong customer service focusStrong analytical skills and laboratory experience to test and identify chemical wasteValid class “G” license in good standing and daily access to a vehicleLocation: Various CRC locations across the RegionWe are committed to supporting community recovery from COVID-19.
