Job Description

Purchasing Leader, Fuel Cell & HydrogenDescriptionWe are looking for a talented Purchasing Leader, Fuel Cell & Hydrogen to join our team specializing in sales for our #NewPower Business Unit in Mississauga, Ontario.In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:

  • Manages sourcing, quality, plant liaison, and business continuity planning within a business unit, commodity group, or international region to ensure continuity of supply. Manages the purchasing within a business unit, commodity group, or international region for all materials, supplies, and equipment in support of corporate purchasing operations and goals. Ensures purchasing activities reflect diverse requirements and overall business goals, as well as complies with all regulatory standards.
  • Manages end-to-end purchasing strategies and processes that capitalize on savings and risk mitigation opportunities for the business.
  • Builds strong supplier relationships.
  • and encourages a high level of supplier collaboration and delivery.
  • Solves complex matters of supplier performance.
  • Contributes to and implements overall purchasing strategy that provides foundation for supplier negotiations.
  • Mitigates risk and promotes compliance by establishing and maintaining valued relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Communicates regularly with purchasing team and business partners.
  • Identifies, plans, and implements continuous improvement opportunities within purchasing processes.
  • Actively supports and drives acceptance of standardized business system solutions across the supply chain.
  • Advises and consults with internal business partners on sourcing processes and procedures.
  • Actively supports the annual planning (AOP) at the business unit, commodity group, or international region level.
  • Presents sourcing and procurement issues and proposed solutions to purchasing leadership.
  • Actively promotes and uses Cummins’ fundamental operating mechanisms such as the Cummins Operating System (COS) and Six Sigma.
  • Develops, leads, and motivates staff; sets goals in training and development, performance, and career planning.
QualificationsTo be successful in this role you will need the following:Skills
  • Category Strategy Development - Establishes category strategy using Total Value Performance approach to define the Supply Base and Technology Strategy to meet all current and future Cummins needs; manages risk and inclusion of diverse suppliers.
  • Communicates effectively - Developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.
  • Diversity Procurement - Evaluates, develops, establishes and integrates global diversity requirements and compliance; creates an inclusive environment that fosters the need for diverse suppliers to ensure a global sustainable and inclusive supply base to meet Cummins and customers requirements.
  • Intellectual Property Management - Assures protection of Cummins Intellectual Property within the supply base and partners with suppliers to optimize the use of their intellectual property for Cummins future competitive advantage by engaging the legal function; assures appropriate separation of Cummins inventors from Supplier Intellectual Property to avoid Intellectual Property poisoning that could inhibit Cummins ability to freely invent.
  • Negotiations Excellence - Utilizes tools and methods in negotiations to achieve Cummins stakeholder objectives and achieve a mutually agreed upon all contract terms between all parties.
  • Purchasing Ethics - Avoids supplier engagement that may compromise supplier sourcing, selection, and management processes and seeks counsel to ensure compliance.
  • Source to Pay Principles - Leverages key principles of the Source to Pay process to smoothly execute sourcing decisions, order placement, material/service acquisition and on-time payment of Suppliers.
  • Sourcing - Utilizes the purchasing functional system to support the Request For Quote process and establish a Total Cost of Ownership comparison of suppliers based on the category strategy and define the supplier that is most likely to meet Cummins and customers needs.
  • Supplier Contract Development - Creates contracts to cover commercial and legal relationship between Cummins and supplier; incorporates commercial requirements and laws of regions, drive consensus amongst stakeholders and develops a mutually agreed and legally approved contract created using a Direct Supplier Supply Agreement (DSA) and the C-Review Process and Negotiations Excellence skill.
  • Supplier Relationship Management - Manages strategic supplier using agreed process with established work plan, senior sponsor meetings, and scorecards; defines and evaluates a collaborative relationship with a Category Partners List supplier to deliver value to Cummins and the supplier.
  • Supplier Tooling Management - Manages supplier tooling strategy by noting the impact on Total Value Performance throughout the product life cycle to accurate piece price, leverages Cummins-owned tooling procedure and ensures continuance of supply from that supplier or another by use of that specific tooling, by using proper Letters of Intent and bailment agreements; tracks and maintains inventory of which tooling Cummins has paid for and owns.
  • Supply Base Risk Management - Minimizes supplier risk to Cummins by proactively mitigating risks through use of risk analysis tools and risk mitigation playbook to manage three key risks including continuity of supply, reputational risk, and risk to our margins of parts by minimizing disruption and services throughout supply chain; manages and leverages supplier selection and dual sourcing opportunities as a first line of defense against supplier risk.
