  • Facilitates and monitors compliance with all regulatory requirements and all associated regulation recommendations. MOH and Health Canada
  • Promote best practices for medical imaging for departmental and safety initiatives
  • Works under the direction of the Radiation Protection Officer
  • Maintains a database to ensure all equipment is HARP compliant
  • Implements and monitors compliance to hospital and departmental policies
  • Creates and maintains all aspects of the Diagnostic Imaging X-ray Safety Program to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Designates employees, as needed, as Xray Workers
  • Assists with the development and review of the Radiation Safety Manual
  • Provides radiation education and training to all new X-ray workers in the Diagnostic Imaging Department as well as all other departments that operate X-ray machines for medical imaging procedures
  • Organize and maintain the X-ray Worker Dosimetry program including education in proper use, distribution, collection, monitoring and shipment of personal radiation dosimeters and quarterly Radiation Exposure Reports
  • Maintain a complete X-ray worker database across all THP sites and all areas where x-ray workers are employed.
  • Review and manage all records of occupational radiation exposure
  • Review and manage all abnormal exposures to staff and patients, including investigation and remedial steps to prevent recurrence
  • Organize and maintain a Quality Assurance program for personal protective equipment including lead aprons/glasses and accessories
  • Summarize the Radiation Dosimetry Exposure Reports and submit quarterly to the JHSC (OHSA)
  • Organize, present and jointly chair the semi-annual Radiation Safety Committee meeting
Key Qualifications:
  • Current and in good standing, C.M.R.I.T.O/CAMRT Registration
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in an X-ray related Diagnostic Imaging Modality (General X-ray, Angiography, CT, Mammography, Bone Densitometry, Cardiac Angiography)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a Radiation Safety role
  • Bachelor of Science or Advanced Diploma in Medical Radiation Technology from an accredited College and/or University
  • X-ray Safety Officer Certification required
  • Joint Health and Safety Certification preferred
  • Knowledge of non-ionizing radiation modalities such as Ultrasound and MRI
  • Detailed knowledge of regulations and accreditation standards related to Radiation and Radiation Safety
  • Knowledge of evidence-based guidelines for the appropriate use of ionizing radiation.
  • Experience in the gathering, analysis, and presentation of data in order to promote change/improvement
  • Demonstrated understanding of Quality Management Systems
  • Demonstrated leadership ability in a team environment
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication (written and oral) skills
  • Strong, demonstrated computer skills
  • Demonstrated commitment to recent Continuing Education
  • Strong, demonstrated commitment to enhancing the quality and sustainability of a Radiation Safety Program
  • Excellent work ethic and attendance record
