Sampling TechnicianPublic Works - WastewaterContract Full-Time; 24 MonthsReporting to the Supervisor, Pollution Control, you will be responsible for the accurate, consistent collection of representative industrial discharge samples for analysis. Collected according to strict standard methods to be submitted to the laboratory for the purpose of enforcing the Region of Peel - Wastewater By-law - 53-2010.Responsibilities:Collection of representative waste water samples from Peel based processing industries and institutionsDocumentation and submission of all sampling activities to help maintain the accuracy and integrity of all samplesCleaning, preparing and maintaining the sampling equipment to ensure that a highly accurate and representative sample is obtainedScheduling of sampling routes on a daily basis to utilize time in the most effective mannerSampling unknown liquids and dealing with potential chemicalIdentifying potential water pollution/safety hazards, illegal conditions and relaying to supervisor ensuring enforcement of the current sewer use by-lawAwareness of confined space regulation and preparation of confined space entry plansFlow and compliance monitoring of contract facilitiesEntering daily samples into the Laboratory Information Management System and preparing the daily sheets for the next dayPrepare monthly reports detailing day to day activitiesQualifications:High school diploma, plus three or more years of formal education in a specialized fieldOne to three years of related experienceExcellent communications, both written and verbalStrong ability to compile and organize information to allow further analysisOccasionally required to provide direction to other employees or act as team leader by allocating work, assigning tasks or providing guidance. May provide input into performance reviewsRespond to non-routine requests for information or conduct further research and study with other internal contacts.
