Our Hybrid Workplace policy allows for an effective balance for employees with the opportunity to work in a hybrid environment; a combination of Remote / In-office work based on operational requirements.Position Purpose: The Specialist, Strategic Support supports the Strategic Support and Treasury business units by providing financial modelling, financial reporting and analytical support for a company strategic initiatives and business processes.Responsibilities:

  • Provides financial support and analysis for regulated and non-regulated business development and other strategic initiatives of the enterprise, in partnership with other business units
  • Provides support and recommendations for the business strategy, including research, complex financial models, business case evaluations and due diligence
  • Develops and maintains evaluation models for assessing new business opportunities for regulated and non-regulated business development
  • Develops and maintains relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including third parties, such as credit rating agencies and financial institutions
  • Researches and recommends appropriate processes to manage financial risks and monitors external financial conditions
  • Provides input and support for quarterly forecast and annual Financial Plan in regards to strategic initiatives of the enterprise
  • Manages department projects and key initiatives to ensure quality and timely completion within budget
  • Ensures compliance to legislative, regulatory and Health & Safety policies, procedures and standards
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Education & Specialized Knowledge
  • Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Finance, or Accounting
  • CMA/CGA/CA/CPA designation
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, including thorough knowledge of IFRS
  • Advanced level of knowledge and experience in financial modeling and management reporting systems
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications, including superior knowledge of Excel
  • Knowledge of the energy and utility industries, including a solid understanding of the regulatory environment
  • Familiarity with the principles of rate making, rate design and cost of service modeling
Experience
  • 3 -5 years relevant experience in rates or finance within a regulated environment
  • Experience supporting strategic corporate initiatives through financial modeling and other analytical techniques
  • Experience in preparing analysis and reports for senior management
  • Experience with a Tier I ERP system
  • Experience in a unionized utility environment an asset
Skills/Abilities/Competencies
  • Highly self-motivated and directed
  • Solid problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to provide practical and/or innovative solutions to complex technical issues
  • Ability to analyze, evaluate and make recommendations regarding both quantitative and qualitative data
  • Strong written and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical issues in an organized and concise way
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and execute multiple projects and initiatives within established timelines
  • Strong planning skills with the ability to assess the impact of decisions
  • Strong conflict negotiation skills, with the ability to influence and resolve critical issues
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Must hold and maintain a valid class “G” driver’s license
