Job Description

JOB DESCRIPTIONFuel Tax Analyst, Indirect TaxesReports ToTax ManagerPrimary Responsibilities

  • Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual tax filings for fuel and carbon tax returns in all provinces east of Ontario (Quebec + East) for the Superior Group
  • Reviewing customer account set-ups and documentary evidence for all new accounts
  • Reviewing customer exemption certificates for completeness and validity
  • Ensuring proper application of the taxable/exempt status of products/services offered.
  • Preparing monthly tax account reconciliations for fuel and carbon taxes.
  • Ensuring the payment of taxes, filing of returns, reporting of product movement, and accounting entries are executed on a timely basis.
  • Reconciling of government tax statement of accounts.
  • Maintaining and updating a monthly tax analyst checklist
  • Managing annual license renewals and monthly administration of rebates and refunds
  • Supporting the Tax Manager with fuel and carbon tax audits including the gathering of information, reconciliations, and drafting responses to audit queries.
  • Assisting with the continuous development of systemic improvements to the businesss tax compliance and exam processes
  • Developing in-depth knowledge of the Company and its industries to identify issues and value-add service opportunities
  • Participating in the training of Company finance, operations, and other personnel on indirect tax matters
  • Preparing detailed written memoranda as necessary to identify, analyze, resolve, and document tax issues associated with proposed transactions, tax planning strategies, and refund claims
  • Building and maintaining relationships within the organization
  • Provide support to ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) documentation requirements.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent career experience
  • 1-3 years in indirect tax preparation and filling
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to focus on continuous improvement, through process improvement and training
  • Hard-working, driven, self-starter with the ability to work independently and who is motivated and committed to meeting Superiors best in class standards
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to learn and adapt to different software platforms and tools and the ability to extract and utilize the data from these systems
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, in order to manage multiple priorities and competing demands with a tight timeline
