Job Description

Warehouse OperatorThe Mississauga Food Bank’s (TMFB) vision is a* Mississauga where no one goes hungry.* We relieve hunger by providing and promoting access to healthy and appropriate food.Job Purpose

  • As a member of the Warehouse team, this person will collaborate with colleagues and volunteers to manage food donations and distribute food to member agencies, while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
ResponsibilitiesWarehouse Operator Responsibilities (80%)
  • Adhere to warehouse SOPs and individual checklists including receiving, safe food handling, cold chain, food sortation, waste management, warehouse cleaning, pest management, order picking
  • Properly use inventory system, track all shipping and receiving activities appropriately
  • Weigh all outgoing orders and incoming product donations and purchases and ensure entry into the inventory system
  • Pick agency orders in advance of shipping/pick up deadline, ensuring orders are stored properly until shipped
  • Handle and store incoming products according to Health Canada’s food safety and handling regulations (including disposal or quarantine if necessary)
  • Work with driver(s) and driver assistant(s) to load and unload trucks
  • Greet and assist food donors who come to the warehouse to drop off food donations
  • Ensure all areas of the warehouse are free of debris, hazards, and cleaned on a frequent basis. At the end of each day, return all equipment to designated areas and ensure proper recharging procedures
  • Report all unsafe situations, practices, and equipment to the Warehouse Supervisor
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Driver Responsibilities (20%)
  • Prepare, inspect, and operate an 18’ straight truck equipped with a reefer and lift gate
  • Pick up/deliver donations throughout Mississauga. Pickups may include grocery store donation bins, fire stations, schools, corporate food drives, shipping docks, etc.
  • Partner with a volunteer driver’s assistant to load and unload shipments on the truck which will require manual lifting or “hand-bombing”
  • Inspect orders just prior to shipping/pick up to ensure product quality, proper skid stacking/wrapping, and obtain a secondary inspection before releasing
  • Follow all cold chain management regulations and report any unsafe practices to the Warehouse Manager
  • Follow assigned route and time schedules
  • Follow all MTO regulations and safety standards
Education and Experience
  • Mandatory:
  • 2+ years experience in a warehouse environment, familiarity with warehouse policies and practices such as safe food handling
  • Class G driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Desired:
  • 3 years of commercial/heavy driving experience with a letter from a previous employer verifying years of truck driving experience
  • Forklift/Raymond Reach/Motorized pallet mover license/certifications

  • The ability to lift 50 lbs

Relationships: This position reports to the Warehouse Supervisor.
